WWE News: Chris Jericho Responds to Royal Rumble Return

Gone Baby GoneNov 9, 2011

Chis Jericho sat down with thesuplex.com to discuss his career and possible return to the WWE.

During this interview Jericho talked about everything from FOZZY's new album to a return to wrestling.

In response to whether he will return at the Royal Rumble, Jericho stated:

"

Well, there’s been rumors that I’m coming back pretty much every week since I left… I still have no plans. I know people get mad at me when I say that. I’ve just been enjoying what I’m doing right now, and if other people don’t understand that I’m sorry. I apologize. I never said I wouldn’t go back to wrestling again.

"

Now Jericho has said this before so this is not huge news. However, it is the following comment that got me thinking that he may truly be done.

"

If I never wrestle again, I’ll have no regrets… I could be done. I know some people don’t like that or understand it. I don’t want the big WrestleMania sendoff with the cheering and the thing, no f—ing way. I just want to disappear and never be seen again.

"

The fact is, Jericho has nothing left to prove in wrestling. So why shouldn't he be able to move on with his life. Clearly, he has a post-wrestling plan and should be applauded for that. Let's face it, most wrestlers get stuck having to continue wrestling as they have no other discernible skill.

Jericho is one of the few who can leave on top and never have to look back. The same can be said for The Rock. However, in The Rock's case he feels he owes the WWE a great debt for his career. Jericho not only continued to wrestle over the past 10 years, he also took a break to reboot.

If Jericho had not turned heel and reinvented his character he would have been stale. His act would have been a nostalgia thing rather than a memorable character. Now we can look back at Jericho's career and see how he was able to transcend himself to something bigger than Y2J.

Hopefully, his post wrestling career will continue to flourish and maybe, just maybe he will come back for a one-off Hall of Fame induction.
