Mark Cuban Would Make Los Angeles Dodgers Relevant Again

Donald WoodNov 2, 2011

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the most storied franchises in all of baseball. In Mark Cuban, they almost had an owner that would have restored that swagger.

Of course, Frank McCourt’s asking price was too high.

Mark Cuban is one of the shrewdest minds in all of professional sports, and he is looking to expand his influence to other leagues in addition to the NBA, where he owns the defending champion Dallas Mavericks.

Cuban made a bid on the Texas Rangers when they were being auctioned off, but he lost out to Nolan Ryan and his partnership of money mega-powers.

The Los Angeles Times reports about the possible asking price for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the surrounding land and the stadium: "Mark Cuban, the owner of the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, said he offered to buy the Dodgers several months ago but declined to enter negotiations when owner Frank McCourt said the price would be in the range of $1 billion to $1.2 billion."

Despite this setback in his plan of sports world domination, Cuban has remained on the prowl in Major League Baseball.

With the financial woes of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cuban saw an opportunity to get in on a team that has a built-in fanbase in one of the biggest cities in the world.

Los Angeles is a town perfect for an ego and an attitude like that of Cuban. With Cubes as the owner of the club, the franchise would once again hold the attention of MLB.

McCourt has agreed to allow his team to be auctioned off, and you better believe that Cuban will be involved in the bidding process.

While the investment would be a good one, Cubes is too good with money to take a risk he knows won’t pay off, so there will be a limit to what he will pay for the team in court.

Cuban as a baseball owner? Bud Selig is freaking out somewhere.
