Breeders' Cup 2011: Miss Netta and the Top Longshots to Consider

Eric BallNov 2, 2011

Nothing is quite like all of the chaos that occurs at the Breeders’ Cup.

With 15 races in the span of only two days, it is heaven for people that like horse racing. It can also be heaven (or hell) for people that gamble on the sport.

Every year, it seems there are long shots that come from nowhere to burn all of the public’s money up into flames.

This year it’s important to analyze the underdogs early on, to get a good feel for potential big money winners.

With that in mind, here are two longshots worth considering:

Miss Netta—15/1

Miss Netta is typically a slow starter that really turns on the burners in the last 15 or so lengths.

The pedigree on this horse is incredible, and having Street Sense as a sire is certainly a positive. Street Sense was one of the most dominant Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winners ever back in 2006.

The reason Miss Netta has such long odds is because she is a bit heavy on the turf course.

To Honor and Serve- 12/1

Vince Hanson of ESPN.com sums up this horse incredibly well:

"

Following a four-month break and a sprint prep, the To Honor and Serve many of his remember from his two sharp juvenile scores at Aqueduct reappeared. He dominated older rivals in an allowance by 8 1/4 lengths at Saratoga on Travers weekend, and last time turned in a personal best with a comfortable 2 1/4-length triumph over Classic entrants Ruler on Ice and Rattlesnake Bridge in the Pennsylvania Derby.

All indications suggest To Honor and Serve enters the Classic on a continued upswing, his ability to get 1 1/4 miles has never been really questioned given his pedigree, and there are just enough doubts about most of the other leading contenders to make this colt worthy of a play if he's anywhere close to his double-digit morning-line price.

"

To Honor and Serve has a stock that’s rising fast and jumping on him now is going to pay some big-time dividends on race day.

When you combine the speed, pedigree and recent history, it’s somewhat puzzling to see such high odds for this underrated horse.

If you are still searching for a horse that is a longshot, yet still holds great value…this is the one for you.
