New York City Marathon 2011: Route, Date, Start Time and TV Info

Richard LangfordNov 1, 2011

The New York City Marathon is one of the world's premier marathons. They offer over $600,000 in prize money to participants, and over 100,000 people apply annually to participate in this historic race.

Roughly two million people line the course to cheer on runners, and—according to nycmarathon.org—315 million people watch this event worldwide.

This marathon has quickly rose to prominence from its humble beginnings. It began in 1970—when only 127 people paid the $1 entry fee to participate.
