NFL Power Rankings: 3 Heavyweights Sure to Be Humbled Soon

John RozumNov 1, 2011

We know at some point throughout the season that a top-notch team is going to fall. And it doesn't mean that all hope is lost for that specific team, because one slip-up isn't the end of a season, especially if you're a Super Bowl contender.

So with that in mind, here are three teams in the top six who will get humbled sooner than later.

Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2)

Whether it's this week or any of the next three, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to become very well aware that a second straight AFC title won't be nearly as easy as the last.

Invading Pittsburgh this week are the Ravens who smashed them in Week 1, then there's the surging Kansas City Chiefs (on the road) sandwiched between the Bengals twice.

Then there's the 49ers in Week 15 at San Fran if Pittsburgh manages to survive the next four weeks. The win over New England was clutch, but keeping the momentum going will be that much more impressive. However, they will get everyone's "A" game and fall very soon.

San Francisco 49ers (6-1)

This week, the 49ers have a trap game at Washington because the Redskins are desperate for a win, and they have a solid defense that's very capable of completely shutting down San Fran.

However, in Week 10 they host the New York Giants (more on them later) and if they get a little healthier by then, The Big Blue Wrecking Crew will be forcing a lot of pressure on Alex Smith.

The longest Frisco will last until the next loss is Thanksgiving Day. There, they travel to Baltimore and play the Ravens who always find ways to win at home. All this said, San Francisco currently has a four-game lead in the NFC West, so they could lose five more games and still win the division easily.

New York Giants (5-2)

The interesting thing about the Giants is that although they're a rather inconsistent team in terms of performance (kind of like Dallas), New York somehow finds a way to win. In addition, that's only to their advantage, thus making them more dangerous than meets the eye.

In any event, the Giants have arguably the most difficult schedule remaining of any team in the NFL. With games at New England, at San Fran, vs. Philly, at New Orleans, vs. Green Bay and at Dallas in each of the next six weeks, they are most definitely going to fall more than once.

Now, this doesn't mean New York will miss the playoffs, but being that they're a top team who's appeared to be vulnerable, they're inconsistency will catch up to them very soon, and most likely this week.
