UFC: Anderson Silva Disses "Not Professional" Manager Ed Soares

Matt SaccaroNov 1, 2011

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and long time manager Ed Soares are having trouble getting along, according to Fighters Only.

Silva recently appeared on Brazilian television and had harsh words for Soares, stating that he "needed to have a more professional attitude."

Silva is likely referring to a recently surfaced photograph that depicts Soares and Chael Sonnen, Silva's arch-rival, in a jovial manner. He could also be referring to the disconnect surrounding when Silva's next fight is.

Either way, Silva isn't happy with Soares.

"His position was not good, was not cool," he said.

"He was not professional and I don't know why… I think it was not cool. But everyone knows what's best, he is a grown man and he is going to deal with the backlash of what he did.”

Strong words from a usually laconic man in Silva. Even worse, part of Silva's criticism had a tinge of anti-American vitriol.

"Unfortunately, my manager is American, he speaks Portuguese but he is American. But I'm putting myself as a Brazilian... Whether you are in the UFC or not, when I’m outside my country I'm going to represent my country well and I think everyone has to position himself in the right way."

Does this mean that Silva will no longer require the services of Ed Soares (similar to how heavyweight contender Junior Dos Santos ditched Soares back in June)?

It's difficult to tell with a man as mysterious as Silva, although the man himself did shed some light on the issue, saying, "I don't have a contract with anybody, except with Nine9 and my sponsors, so anything can happen."

It doesn't sound like a good time to be Ed Soares.
