Pacquiao vs Marquez: PPV Info, Start Time, Keys to Victory and More

Michael DixonNov 1, 2011

Two great rivals will square off for the third time in less than two weeks when Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2) takes on Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1).

The first two fights have been close, but Marquez has been left unsatisfied. The first battle came in May of 2004 and ended in a draw. The second came in March of 2008, which Pacquiao won in a split decision.

This fight will take place at 144 pounds and will be for Pacquiao's WBO Welterweight Title.

Biggest Storyline:

Marquez has been a consistent thorn in the side of Pacquiao. He's never beaten Pacquiao, but has fought him to one draw. Even in their most recent fight, which was a Pacquiao win, Marquez was the last fighter to not be knocked out or lose by unanimous decision to Pacquiao.

Can Marquez step up and beat Pacquiao? He's been a thorn in the side, but hasn't beaten Pacquiao yet.

From Pacquiao's perspective, can he continue his momentum and build towards that dream fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

Keys to Victory for Pacquiao:

As great as Pacquiao has been throughout his career, he's not a particularly great fighter when it comes to getting knockouts.

The key for him will be the early rounds. If he wins those and gets an early lead in the fight, it's really hard to imagine Marquez coming back in the later rounds, or getting a knockout.

Keys to Victory for Marquez:

He can't fall behind early. Pacquiao hasn't done a lot of fighting from behind recently. If Marquez can get out and at least keep it close in the early rounds, he puts Pacquiao in an unusual and uncomfortable place.

What They're Saying:

Emanuel Steward told boxingscene.com that he likes Marquez's chances against Pacquiao. He feels that Marquez's style is very opportunistic and that the extra weight he has put on for this fight will only help push Marquez over the top.

"

“It’s just that Marquez has that certain style that is always going to be a problem for Manny. He takes advantage of every mistake [Pacquiao] makes...I think that guy is about another 10 pounds naturally bigger now."

"

Prediction:

I do think that Marquez is a tough matchup for Pacquiao, but the facts are that Pacquiao has still never dropped a fight to him.

Pacquiao is five years younger, which is not insignificant. Their last fight came more than three years ago. I like him to win.

Pacquiao by unanimous decision.
