2011 Breeders Cup: Uncle Mo and Favorites That Won't Win

Donald WoodNov 1, 2011

The 2011 Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs will be one of the biggest events of the horse racing year, and the excitement has been palpable for the race.

With the race less than a week away on November 5 at 7:00 p.m., the betting lines are being adjusted and wagers are being placed accordingly for one of the biggest gambling days of the year.

The following horses are favorites for this race, but will not win at the end of the day.

Uncle Mo—Uncle Mo is one of the best horses in this race, and he has five wins in his last seven races. Uncle Mo has placed in every race he has entered in the last two years, and while he is a 4.5/1 favorite, he won’t win.

Todd A. Pletcher is one of the best trainers in the world, but Uncle Mo is not built to run a track as long as Churchill Downs.

Havre de Grace—At a 5.5/1 favorite for this Breeders’ Cup race, Havre de Grace has the momentum and talent to win, but he won’t.

This horse has only raced on a 1.25 mile track twice in his career and has never won on one before. Havre de Grace can have as many wins as he wants, but the stamina needed for this race is something he hasn’t proved he has.

So You Think—Of all the favorites, So You Think has the best chance of winning the Breeders’ Cup, but he doesn’t always do well in the traffic he will surely see Saturday.

So You Think has won eight 1.25 mile races so we know he has the talent, but let’s see if he can do it with the stiffer competition of the top series in the sport.
