Week 9 Waiver Wire: Brent Celek and Best Secrets Worth Adding

Ryan RudnanskyOct 31, 2011

As the weeks go by in the NFL season, legitimate waiver wire pickups become few and far between for fantasy football owners.

At this point, if you're still unhappy with your team, it's probably not a good sign.

But there's still hope for the dedicated and determined.

Here are three waiver wire pickups that will prove useful in the coming weeks.

3. Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

With veteran receiver Hines Ward out of action on Sunday due to injury, second-year pro Emmanuel Sanders got an opportunity to shine, and he made the most of it.

Sanders caught five balls for 70 yards against the New England Patriots in Week 8, and that was after he went for 46 yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals the week before.

Sure, Ward won't be out forever, but given that Sanders and Antonio Brown are proving to be threats, Ward's role may also diminish in the coming weeks.

Not a bad option if the waiver wire is looking skimpy.

2. Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks

We've repped rookie Doug Baldwin before, but after his Week 7 performance against the Cleveland Browns (zero catches), he was dropped in a large amount of leagues.

But even with Baldwin's quarterback situation, he's still the clear No. 2 receiver for the Seahawks, and he's racking up a lot of targets. In Week 8, he caught five passes for 73 yards against a solid Cincinnati Bengals secondary.

Baldwin faces the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9, a team that has allowed 11 touchdown passes.

1. Brent Celek, TE, Philadelphia Eagles

Remember 2009, when tight end Brent Celek burst onto the fantasy scene, racking up 971 receiving yards and eight touchdowns?

Well, he's back.

It's not a coincidence that the Eagles' revitalization has coincided with Celek's return to prominence. Celek is being used as a pass-catcher the last two games, and he has over 25 fantasy points to show for it.

In Week 8, Celek racked up 94 yards and a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys. This was after he had 42 yards and a touchdown against the Washington Redskins.

In Week 9, Celek and the Eagles face the Chicago Bears, a team giving up 271.9 passing yards per game and 11 passing touchdowns this season.

It should be another good week for Celek.
