Nick Diaz, Chael Sonnen and 5 Other Great UFC Call Outs
The sport of mixed martial arts hasn't become the world's fastest growing sport solely on their fighter's performances.
The UFC, specifically, not only entertains its fans through its fights, but also the trash talking that takes place before and after these fights.
And, let's be honest, there aren't too many of us who don't enjoy a fighter calling out a fellow fighter.
The UFC not only gives the fans what they want to see, but what they want to hear as well.
The following slides display five of the greatest call outs that have taken place in the UFC today.
Let's take a look.
Nick Diaz Calls out GSP
1 of 5Following the biggest victory of his mixed martial arts career over BJ Penn at UFC 137, Diaz went to national pay-per-view television and called out current Welterweight champion, George St-Pierre.
Diaz stated,
“I don’t think George is hurt. I think he’s scared.”
Diaz went on to add,
“He’s scared to fight everyone right now.”
St-Pierre was present when this occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada and appeared to graciously accept Diaz's challenge to fight.
Brock Lesnar Calls out Bud Light
2 of 5After manhandling Frank Mir at UFC 100, Brock Lesnar pulled a new trick out of the books.
He didn't bother calling out an opponent, or anyone from the UFC for that matter.
Instead, shockingly, Lesnar called out his own sponsor, Bud Light.
In his post fight interview, Lesnar stated,
"I'm going to go home tonight, I'm going to drink a Coors Light. That's a Coors Light, because Bud Light won't pay me nothing."
Roy Nelson Calls out Cain Velasquez
3 of 5After arguably the biggest victory of Roy Nelson's career, he didn't take the time to celebrate. Instead, he pulled a Chael Sonnen by calling out current Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in a humorous way.
In his post fight interview, Nelson stated,
“I guess I’m going to do a 'Chael Sonnen' right now, I’m supposed to call out somebody," Nelson stated. "Who’s fighting in a couple weeks? I think Junior (dos Santos) and (Cain) Velasquez."
He went on to add,
"I want the championship, I’m getting too old for this s--t so I kind of want to hurry this s--t up. So that’s who I want."
Chael Sonnen Calls out Anderson Silva
4 of 5After defeating Brian Stann at UFC 136 in Houston, Texas, Chael Sonnen wasted no time in addressing the man he greatly despises, Anderson Silva.
Sonnen took the microphone from Joe Rogan and stated,
"Anderson Silva you absolutely suck!"
Sonnen continued,
"Superbowl weekend, the biggest rematch in the history of the business. I'm calling you out Silva but we're upping the stakes.
"I beat you, you leave the division. You beat me, I will leave the UFC forever."
Rashad Evans Calls out Jon Jones
5 of 5Rashad Evans didn't necessarily call out current Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones following a victory, but he did call him out and make it fairly personal.
In reference to the Philippians 4:13 tattooed on Jones' chest, Evans stated,
"Yeah, I think a guy with a New Testament scripture inked on his chest is pretty familiar with Judas. In all of the verbal-trash that will be slung around in the lead-up to this fight, this is probably the line that will stick with — and motivate — Jones the most."
Evans may have taken it a little far by toying with the religion card.
