Tom Brady vs. Aaron Rodgers: Which QB Gives His Team Best Chance to Win?
Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are undoubtedly two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today, but who would you want leading your team in a must-win situation?
Taking into account each players' physical abilities, leadership skills and experience, here's a look at how Rodgers and Brady stack up in a head-to-head comparison.
Slingin' It: Tom Brady
1 of 9Tom Brady doesn't have the overall arm strength of Aaron Rodgers, but his ability to read a defense's coverage and thread the ball to an open target is second to none.
So far this season Brady has racked up 2,361 yards and 18 touchdowns through the air, while connecting with 11 different Patriot receivers.
He has thrown eight interceptions this season, but considering that four of them came in the same game, his touchdown-to-interception ratio is quite impressive.
Slingin' It: Aaron Rodgers
2 of 9Aaron Rodgers has always had one of the NFL's most powerful arms, but in the past few seasons he has developed into one of the league's most accurate and consistent passers as well.
Rodgers has thrown for 2,372 yards already this season, tallying 20 touchdowns and just three interceptions through seven games.
Like Brady, Rodgers has also done a nice job of distributing the ball all over the field, as he has connected with 13 different Green Bay receivers so far this season.
While both quarterbacks have had impressive statistical seasons to this point, I give Rodgers the edge over Brady in the passing game solely because of his lower turnover numbers.
On the Ground: Tom Brady
3 of 9If there's one knock on Tom Brady it's his inability to escape the pocket and make things happen with his feet. He has rushed just 10 times this season, racking up a mere 30 yards and zero touchdowns.
To be fair, The Patriot offense doesn't require much running out of their quarterback, and their offensive line has allowed just 14 sacks this season, so Brady hasn't been forced into rushing situations.
Still, while it may be a bit nit-picky, mobility is certainly not Tom Brady's strong suit.
On the Ground: Aaron Rodgers
4 of 9Aaron Rodgers is never going to be Michael Vick, but he's actually one of the most talented rushing quarterbacks in today's game.
While he may not pick up a ton of yardage on the ground, he has scored 15 rushing touchdowns in his relatively young career, and averages 4.6 yards per rushing attempt.
The numbers may be skewed because of the Packers' offensive line struggles over the past few seasons, but I give Rodgers the edge over Brady in the run game because he is simply a more mobile athlete.
The Experience Factor: Tom Brady
5 of 9Tom Brady still gives off that young-gun aura, but he's one of the NFL's most tested and experienced quarterbacks.
Since being drafted in 1999, Brady has led New England to three Super Bowl titles and has been selected as a Pro Bowler six different times.
Not bad, huh?
Needless to say, when the game is on the line Brady has the poise and confidence necessary to get his team the W.
The Experience Factor: Aaron Rodgers
6 of 9Aaron Rodgers is seven years younger than Brady, but he certainly isn't lacking NFL experience.
As much as he might hate to admit it, Rodgers probably learned a thing or two from watching Brett Favre run the Green Bay offense for three seasons, and he has played brilliantly since taking over the starting job in 2008.
While he doesn't have the extensive playoff experience that Brady does, winning the Super Bowl last season showed the world that Rodgers has what it takes to win when it matters most.
Still, Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and I have to give him the edge over Rodgers when it comes to experience.
The Leadership Factor: Tom Brady
7 of 9Tom Brady has always been considered one of the NFL's greatest leaders, and rightfully so.
Even in years when the New England offense has looked to depleted on paper, Brady has found ways to take no-name youngsters such as Wes Welker, Danny Woodhead and Rob Gronkowski and turn them into legitimate weapons.
It's that kind of leadership that has made the Patriots the powerhouse that they are today.
The Leadership Factor: Aaron Rodgers
8 of 9In just a few short years Aaron Rodgers has become the face of the Green Bay Packers.
His fierce on-field leadership, as showcased with his classic "Championship Belt" celebration during the 2010-11 playoffs has become well-known, and he has earned a reputation as a proven winner.
Both he and Brady are true generals of their respective franchises, so it's hard to give either the edge in the leadership department.
The Edge: Aaron Rodgers
9 of 9While Tom Brady is without a doubt one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time, Aaron Rodgers is the best in the game today.
He has a cannon for an arm, he's quick on his feet, and he has the intangibles to win any game no matter the circumstances.
