NFL Power Rankings Week 9: Pittsburgh Steelers and Teams That Made Big Jumps

Tim DanielsOct 31, 2011

It's time for a fresh set of NFL power rankings and, just like every other week, several teams made big jumps after picking up key victories. Here are the three biggest winners of the week as illustrated by their swift movement up the rankings.

Buffalo Bills

Buffalo moved back into first place by destroying the Washington Redskins in Toronto. Fred Jackson totaled nearly 200 yards and surprising tight end Scott Chandler caught two more touchdowns, tying a team record in the process.

The Bills' remaining schedule is far from a cakewalk, so there are no playoff guarantees yet. They will need to knock off at least one or two highly-touted teams, while also holding serve against Miami, in order to crash the postseason party for the first time in more than a decade.

Philadelphia Eagles

Andy Reid is awesome after bye weeks for whatever reason and that trend continued against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Michael Vick completed 75 percent of his passes and LeSean McCoy ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns in a rout of their division rivals.

Philadelphia seems to be rounding into form and have a very manageable remaining slate. There's no reason the Eagles can't reach 10 wins if they can continue the positive momentum they brought out of the bye week.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers picked up their fourth straight win and sixth in the past seven games by upsetting the previously overrated New England Patriots. Ben Roethlisberger carved up New England's shaky secondary to the tune of 365 yards and two touchdowns.

Next up is a rematch against the Baltimore Ravens, who crushed Pittsburgh in Week 1. The Steelers appear well on their way to the playoffs once again, so now they are playing for a bye. Exacting revenge against Baltimore would be the first step towards making that happen.
