Tim Tebow: Why He Will Never Be a Quality NFL Quarterback

Hunter SimonNov 2, 2011

Tim Tebow is not just a quarterback. He is a divine being among men. At least that is what many of his supporters would have me believe.

In the case of Tebow, religion and sports have never been so closely tied. The media made him out to be the savior of the Denver Broncos. After the Denver Broncos defeated the Miami Dolphins in a 15-point comeback, the media gave Tebow all the credit. Contrary to popular belief, Tebow did not win the "miraculous" Dolphins game. In fact, there were great plays made by his teammates to make him look good. It seems difficult for our society and the media to grasp that Tebow, like any player, is not Superman.

In the first three quarters of the game, Tebow was 3 of 8 for 24 yards while missing wide-open targets on his several misses and, oh by the way, he was sacked four times. His numbers improved in the fourth, but only because of the terrific play of teammates such as Daniel Fells, Matt Prater and especially his onside recover team.

The Denver Broncos team won this game. Fells made fantastic catches off of Tebow's poorly thrown passes, including a diving catch near the goal-line. Prater made it possible for an onside recovery and booted a 52-yard field goal to win it in overtime.

Most importantly, even the Miami Dolphins wanted him to win. We are talking about arguably the worst team in the NFL this season. Tebow's slight success against a pathetic team like this does not prove anything. If anything, his visible struggles against such poor competition just shows how inept a quarterback he will be.

Now let us fast-forward to last weekend's 45-10 victory by the Detroit Lions that exposed Tebow for what he really is as an NFL player-: A "ra-ra" passionate, third-string quarterback. Nothing more. He is not a god and he is not good. He is not a savior. He is not a first round, can't-miss talent. He is a bust, clipboard holding, third-string quarterback at best. Tim Tebow will never be a quality starter in the NFL.

Now I am not saying Tebow cannot be successful in this league. He possesses great leadership ability, speed, agility and intelligence. However, watching Tebow run an offense and throw a football is worse than nails on a chalkboard. Perhaps Tebow should try his athletic talent as a running back or tight end where his strongest skills can be put to use.

Until that day, we can all laugh and criticize Tebow for attempting to be something he is not: a quarterback.
