Ranking NFL's Top 10 QBs Based on Strength of Schedule

Scott L. HutchinsonOct 30, 2011

Winning football games and racking up impressive statistics is one thing, but doing so against the NFL's best teams is something else entirely.

Statistics are impressive, but it's important to also consider how those statistics came to be, and which teams those statistics came against.

Here are the NFL's 10 best quarterbacks based on strength of schedule.

10. Michael Vick

1 of 10

Michael Vick puts up absolutely ridiculous numbers, and based on talent alone he's without a doubt one of the league's best signal callers.

That said, his Eagles have struggled this year, despite playing just the 15th toughest schedule in the NFL.

No matter how great his individual performances are, Vick won't be considered among the elite until his Eagles can get back to their winning ways.

9. Ryan Fitzpatrick

2 of 10

Unlike Vick, Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't a guy who puts up gaudy numbers, but he's a proven winner and has led his Bills to a 5-2 record despite facing some seriously tough competition.

Buffalo's schedule is rated the second most difficult in all of football, yet Fitzpatrick has looked poised and confident all season long.

He may not have the athletic ability of some of the league's bigger stars, but it's hard to argue with Fitzpatrick's winning record.

8. Ben Roethlisberger

3 of 10

The AFC North didn't look like a particularly deep division at the start of the 2011-12 season, but eight weeks in Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cincinnati are all just two-loss teams.

Pittsburgh has looked especially impressive, tallying big wins over Tennessee and New England, and Ben Roethlisberger has been their leader all season long.

He's not one to put up outrageous numbers, but he plays smart football against quality opponents and always tends to find a way to get the W.

7. Philip Rivers

4 of 10

Philip Rivers hasn't been his usual dominant self so far this season, but his Chargers are still in first place in the AFC West despite having to play the league's third toughest schedule.

The emergence of running backs Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert has taken its toll on Rivers' individual statistics, but he still has one of the league's strongest arms and he's still very much a top-tier NFL quarterback.

6. Mark Sanchez

5 of 10

Love him or hate him, Mark Sanchez is a winner.

The New York Jets are 4-3 this season despite competing in the stacked AFC East, and Sanchez has played impressively in spite of the widespread criticism that often comes his way.

He has had his share of struggles throughout his young career, but Sanchez and the Jets win football games.

That's all that really matters.

5. Drew Brees

6 of 10

The New Orleans Saints haven't played a grueling schedule this season, but they have absolutely taken care of business.

Drew Brees is the General of the 5-3 Saints' offense, and he has kept New Orleans in each and every game regardless of their opponent.

New Orleans second-half schedule is much more difficult than their first, but with Brees at the helm they shouldn't have much to worry about.

4. Cam Newton

7 of 10

The Carolina Panthers are just 2-6 this season, but rookie quarterback Cam Newton has absolutely nothing to do with that losing record.

Newton and the Panthers have faced the league's toughest schedule so far this season, and they have been competitive in each and every game.

They are a much better team than their record suggests, and with Newton under center, Carolina could he headed for a turnaround.

3. Matthew Stafford

8 of 10

The Detroit Lions have been one of the biggest surprise stories of the 2011-12 NFL season and Matthew Stafford has had a lot to do with that.

Despite facing one of the league's most difficult schedules, Stafford has led Detroit to a 6-2 record through eight weeks of play.

With Calvin Johnson as his go-to man, he is rapidly developing into one of the NFL's most dynamic quarterbacks.

2. Aaron Rodgers

9 of 10

Aaron Rodgers is perhaps the most unstoppable player in the NFL.

The Packers are 7-0 so far this season, and have already tallied big-time time victories over New Orleans, Atlanta and their divisional rival Chicago Bears.

In each and every game this season, no matter the opponent, Rodgers has looked absolutely dominant, and he shows no signs of slowing up any time soon.

1. Tom Brady

10 of 10

The Patriots have wins over San Diego, Oakland, Dallas and the New York Jets already this season, and it's safe to say that Tom Brady was the key to each and every one of those victories.

Every game is a must-win when you're playing in the AFC East, and Brady handles pressure as well as anyone in the NFL.

He's been tested against some of the league's best defenses, and aside from a few small slip-ups, Brady has still played remarkably well week after week.
