2012 MLB Free Agents: New York and More Great Landing Spots for SS Jose Reyes

Michael DixonOct 29, 2011

With the exceptions of Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder, there probably isn't a more highly sought after position player than SS Jose Reyes.

Reyes led the National League in hitting with a cool .337 average. He also nabbed 39 bases and considering his style of play, home park, and the fact that he only played 126 games, his power numbers of seven home runs and 44 RBI are even respectable.

Considering his offensive skills and the position he plays, Reyes will certainly be a highly sought after player. So, what places make the most sense for him?

New York Mets

Why does he have to go anywhere? Given the stadium that they play half of their games at, Reyes swing and speed are a great mix.

It's not a home run park, so mashers aren't going to be very valuable there. Gap to gap speed guys are a different story altogether.

The Mets are a big market team that need to get back to where they were in 2006. Keeping Reyes is an excellent step in that direction.

Boston Red Sox

I couldn't even imagine how many runs Reyes would score batting at the top of that lineup. Fenway is a park where righties thrive. This is just a great mix.

Jed Lowrie and Marco Scutaro can certainly be improved upon. The Red Sox have the money to pay Reyes what the market will dictate. His game would work well with that team. There's really no reason this couldn't work.

San Francisco Giants

Much like the Mets, the Giants play in a park where gap to gap ability and speed are much more rewarded than power is.

Based on 2010, San Francisco clearly has the arms to win a championship. Based on 2011, they clearly need to hit better and score more runs to make the playoffs.

With the return of Buster Posey, as well as Pablo Sandoval and possibly Carlos Beltran, the Giants have the players to drive runs in. Jose Reyes would be a great guy to get on base and make things happen for them.
