Yankees: Day Three of Winter Meetings
Have the Yankees made an offer to Tex? Boston.com reports:
"LAS VEGAS — Scott Boras addressed a massive pack of reporters here at the Bellagio at roughly 4:20 p.m. local time. He said Mark Teixeira, the most prominent free agent remaining, has received contract offers from every team with interest (presumably the Red Sox, Angels, Nationals, Orioles, and Yankees). The Red Sox have offered captain Jason Varitek a contract as well, Boras said, although he did not comment when asked if the catcher had other offers.
"
Update on Burnett from Boston.com:
Burnett deciding between Yankees and Braves
A source told the Boston Globe that A.J. Burnett has eliminated the Red Sox and Blue Jays from his thought process and is deciding on offers from the Braves and Yankees.
Rays VP Andrew Friedman said he met with free agent Bobby Abreu’s representatives on Wednesday.
Contrary to Jayson Stark’s earlier report, the Phillies are maintaining interest in free agent Derek Lowe.
Yankees will still have a first-round pick
"By signing CC Sabathia, the Yankees will lose their first-round pick in the draft to the Brewers.
However … the compensation picks they received for not signing Gerrit Cole (first round) and Scott Bittle (second round) are protected picks. So no matter what happens, the Yankees will have a pick in each of the first two rounds in June.

Other Updates and rumors from around the MLB:
and here are some thoughts on the signing of CC Sabathia:
Lebron James:
“As a Yankees’ fan, we’ve struggled the last few years with our pitching, our starting rotation. It’s good to get a pitcher in there that can make things happen and don’t need many runs to win a ballgame.”
Eric Wedge:
“I think about his leadership and the strength that he has as a person and what he does for those around him,” Wedge said. “I get this question a lot and I think CC is going to be fine, I really do. He has perspective and a tremendous belief system in himself.”
Derek Jeter:
“Nothing’s final, so I think it’s premature to comment on it,” Jeter said. “All you can say is how great of a pitcher he is. Any team in baseball would love to have him. He’s a guy that’s an intimidating factor on the mound, and hopefully, we can get things done."
Johnny Damon:
“I’m shocked because I went to bed last night not hearing much and then I woke up and there were reports that he’s a Yankee. I think that’s great. We’re out there rebuilding our team and we’re going to get back into the playoffs. We needed to have a horse and now we have our horse.”
Joe Girardi:
“Its exciting to think about.”
Scott Boras:
“I think it gives more of a road map of where the Yankees are going. I think any player would want to be on a team with CC Sabathia. I think from the Yankees perspective, certainly it adds a star player and helps their chances to win.”
