Rangers vs. Cardinals: Josh Hamilton Credits Divine Intervention for Game 6 HR

Michael DixonOct 28, 2011

If you're the Texas Rangers, how in the world do you come back from what happened in Game 6? There is some precedent for it in the game's history.

Has anyone seen this home run?

Well, it didn't win the World Series for the Red Sox, it only tied the Series and forced a Game 7. As a matter of fact, when the MLB Network did its 20 best games list earlier this season, that game was voted No. 1.

But, the Reds came back and won the next game, and the Series. All of that momentum the Red Sox had gained didn't do them any good.

Of course, there is precedent to suggest that the Cardinals will win Game 7. Both 1986 and 2002 involved similar losses in Game 6 for the Red Sox and Giants, respectively. In both cases, the Game 6 loser also lost Game 7.

What the Rangers have going for them is the right attitude to bounce back. See what Josh Hamilton told Sports Day DFW's Eddie Sefko:

"

He said, you haven't hit one in a while and this is the time you're going to...But there was a period at the end of that. He didn't say, you're going to hit it and you're going to win.

"

The "He" that Hamilton was referring to was God. I don't want to get into the religious aspects of anything, but that's a sign of some perspective. Maybe you agree with Hamilton, maybe you don't. But the fact that he's believing it is not bad for the team.

As far as the rest of the game, Hamilton had this to say:

"

We were talking about it in the outfield...Whoever we brought in (to pitch). They had a couple guys on and we were like, 'This is a classic.' So we're not all stressed out as bad as you think we are. We'd like to watch it later, too.'

"

Again, the loss is bad, but the fact that the Rangers' players realized what they were a part of is a sign that they will have an ability to put this loss behind them.

So, how does tonight look? On paper, Matt Harrison vs. Chris Carpenter favors the Cardinals, but Carpenter's previous start on three-days rest was disastrous.

Injuries to Nelson Cruz and Mike Napoli are potentially huge problems for the Rangers, too.

So what will happen? I am going to go with the Rangers to bounce back, but wouldn't be at all surprised if I am wrong. If I am, it won't have anything to do with what happened in Game 6. Game 7 is a new game, and both teams know it, especially the one who didn't want any part of a Game 7.
