NFL Week 8 Picks: Tim Tebow Prop Bets vs. Detroit Lions

Jeff GrantOct 27, 2011

Denver Broncos fans are going crazy over quarterback Tim Tebow and last week's 18-15 come-from-behind victory in overtime over the Miami Dolphins has likely cemented his place under center for the rest of the season.

Oddsmakers are even "Tebowing" in anticipation of the franchise's home game against the Detroit Lions and sending out proposition wagers early in hopes of cashing in on the craze.

Let's take a look at three bets that will have you collecting at the betting window at the conclusion of Sunday's contest in the Mile High City.

Total Passing Yards

1 of 3

Casual bettors are going to jump at the opportunity of wagering on the "under" in this offering, as Tim Tebow managed to throw for just 161 yards last week.

It's an even higher number when you find out that the Miami Dolphins defense limited him to just 40 passing yards through 55 minutes of the game.

Oddsmakers don't like to lose money and adjusted this number upwards due to his performances in the Mile High City.

He threw for over 200 yards in both home starts to end the 2010 season.

Weather forecasts suggest no snow in the Denver area, giving me the green light to be bullish on seeing some "Tebowing" after long completions Sunday.

Pick:  Over 185.5 passing yards (-110)

Total Rushing Yards

2 of 3

Unless he's playing in a certain SEC rivalry game Saturday, I'm going to stick with my contrarian stance in this contest and expect a below-average rushing day for Tim Tebow.

The Detroit Lions defense is allowing opposing quarterbacks to gain an average of 6.7 yards per game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Josh Freeman leads that group in gaining 26 yards on the ground in Week 1.

If he wants to continue "Tebowing" past the 2011 campaign, the former Florida star must show that he can throw the football.

Pick:  Under 52.5 rushing yards (-110)

Total Interceptions

3 of 3

Tim Tebow has attempted 37 passes during the 2011 thus far and not thrown an interception, but that will likely change Sunday.

He threw an interception in both of his home starts a year ago, including two in the 33-28 loss to the San Diego Chargers to close out the season.

The Detroit Lions pass rush will cause a few ill-timed throws during the course of the game.

There will be no "Tebowing" after completing a pass to the other team—at least I hope not.

Pick:  Over .5 interceptions (-150)
