WWE Diva Michelle McCool's Candid Interview

Joe Burgett Dec 9, 2008

Just days away from SmackDown Friday, there was an interview on PWTorch.com conducted by columnist James Caldwell with Michelle McCool. As you may have seen on SmackDown recently, it looks as if McCool is starting to go heel.

She has not been heel since her arrival in the WWE via the Diva Search a while back. Currently she's the Diva's Champion—the first ever to hold that title—and it already seems as if she is in character in this interview.

Michelle McCool says it's not easy filtering out the negativity she feels is surrounding her right now, which plays into her current storyline on TV.

"It's not easy to filter out all the negative things people say and/or write about you," McCool said on her WWE Universe blog. "It's not easy to go down the road less traveled. It's not easy to always be yourself."

McCool also defended herself against critics of her in-ring work, saying she's done everything possible to improve and has worked hard to be given the championship opportunity by WWE.

"I love how people so quickly forget that I have been here four years and worked my butt off every single day...pitching storylines, training at DSW, working in the ring, doing appearances, etc.," McCool said.

"Not just that, but in case you forgot—I'm certainly not the only "diva search reject" under contract right now."

McCool also explained why she stopped using the "Wings of Love" finishing maneuver, which is essentially a double underhook facebuster/Christopher Daniels Angel's Wings/Awesome Kong implant buster.

"I haven't used it in quite some time now, but that's not by choice," she said. "Truth is, I'm not allowed to use it anymore. Apparently, it was too devastating for us girls! Seriously."

She hopes to bust out another move on Maria and/or Maryse, though, in future matches on SmackDown.

"The only good thing about that is that I debuted a new one on Marsye this weekend and believe me, I think you'll be impressed," McCool said. "I have to keep it under wraps for now until I use it on TV. Hopefully, it's not too rough for us girls."

It is pretty easy to see that she may be able to do her heel storyline well because of her frustration. But I feel that the WWE is kind of doing it wrong.

Now I'd like to share my opinion, so I am going to kind of cut her down a bit here. She is not a very good actor and that is easy to see.

Every time she does a line, it is like seeing a high school play. I have to say her wrestling is very good—there is nothing wrong there. She has a southern accent, and there is no problem with that.

But when she talks, compared to her soon-to-be-rival Maria and others, her acting is exposed. The WWE is an entertainment enterprise and you have to sell it through wrestling and talking.

McCool is not great at the talking part. This could be why she doesn't get very many big storylines. This is the biggest of her career, as far as I can see, especially when she has the Divas Championship.

The WWE always has to be into the champions they have. Those champions have to be able to fulfill their double duty—wrestling and acting. McCool is the only champion that cannot do that.

As a title-holder and No. 1 diva with SmackDown status, McCool has to get better or she will be buried in mid-card matches in the diva division for a while. The WWE wants the Diva division to sell.

And since they got rid of the Crusierweight Championship, they have to. The CC was what attracted people to SmackDown for a long time. Now it is gone, having been replaced with the Divas Title.

If the WWE doesn't want to see an uproar for the CC, they need to make it better. I see they are trying to with the Maria/McCool storyline, since they are the top divas on SmackDown, but it may not work.

If McCool can get better at selling things and making it seem as if she is not acting, that is when it will sell.

What do you think?
