NHL Winter Classic 2012: Flyers' Legion of Doom Reunion Will Give Fans Closure

The 2012 Bridgestone Winter Classic in Philadelphia will feature the Philadelphia Flyers taking on the New York Rangers.

While that game is sure to be amazing, the Flyers-Rangers Alumni Game set for Dec. 31 at Citizen Bank Park will be the best part of the whole event.

Besides the reunion of the LCB Line of Reggie Leach, Bob Clarke and Bill Barber that won two Stanley Cups in the 1970s, there is a bigger reunion brewing.

The Flyers will bring back the often embattled Eric Lindros to center the Flyers' famed Legion of Doom line with John LeClair and Mikael Renberg.

Lindros’ time in Philadelphia didn’t end well, but it will be great for the fan favorite to clear the air and get back in orange and black where he belongs.

Lindros spoke to the Brady and Lang Morning Show on 590 AM radio in Toronto about his return for the Flyers’ Alumni game before the 2012 Winter Classic in Philadelphia:

(Flyers general manager) Paul Holmgren gave me a shout about a month and a half ago and we talked back and forth a little bit, and I was real happy to hear his voice and get the invitation. I told him a while back that I would fly down and have some fun. Johnny and Mikael and I are trying to put something together for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and we're probably going to announce something in the next little bit, try to raise some money for them and try to incorporate that to the event.

Real Flyers fans loved Lindros because he was everything a hockey player was supposed to be and more. He had the toughness of a grinder, the size of a defenseman and the hands and speed of a finesse forward.

Troubles between then general manager Bobby Clarke and Lindros’ parents/agents over a collapsed lung and a near death ruined the relationship all those years ago, but the success on the ice can’t be argued.

The Legion of Doom was one of the greatest lines in NHL history, putting up a combined 666 points through three seasons and almost winning the Stanley Cup for Philadelphia in 1997.

The Winter Classic game on January 2 will be the main event, but the true show will be the Alumni game this year. I can’t wait.
