NFL Picks Week 8: Chargers vs. Chiefs and 5 Games To Bet the House On

Donald WoodOct 26, 2011

Week 8 of the 2011 NFL season could be the worst of the entire year, and the exciting matchups that people were looking forward to at the beginning of this season have not come to fruition.

Many teams that were supposed to be great have fallen by the wayside, and teams that were supposed to be terrible have stayed in the middle of the pack.

With no real separation between the middle-of-the-pack teams and the bottom feeders, it is getting hard to pick games to wager on.

That’s where we come in.

The following list is of the five best games to make a bet on, but we don’t condone that activity whatsoever.

Check back for more on the NFL world as it comes, and check out Bleacher Report’s Football Page to get your fill of the NFL.

No. 5: Detroit Lions at Denver Broncos

1 of 5

The Detroit Lions are coming off their second straight loss, and the animosity they are feeling is starting to bubble to the surface.

First, the San Francisco 49ers and then the Atlanta Falcons beat the Lions, but it will be the Denver Broncos that feel the wrath of the beating that Detroit will unleash this week.

Watch out for plenty of pass yards from Matthew Stafford and a big day from Calvin Johnson, but the difference will be made when the Lions defensive line destroys Tim Tebow.

Prediction: Lions 33, Broncos 24

No. 4: Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans

2 of 5

The Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Baltimore Ravens last week on Monday Night Football in what was the most boring game I have seen in a long time.

While Jacksonville looked solid, it was more of a bad showing by the Ravens than anything the Jaguars actually did right.

The Houston Texans have the defense and the run game to beat a mediocre Jacksonville team, and the possible return of Andre Johnson could further boost this lock.

Prediction: Texans 27, Jaguars 12

No. 3: Miami Dolphins at New York Giants

3 of 5

All you really need to know in this game is that the Miami Dolphins lost last week to the Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow, and that they will get crushed this week against the New York Giants.

The Giants are coming off a bye week that the injury-plagued team desperately needed, and they will be ready to get back on a winning track against the Dolphins.

With a porous secondary, the Dolphins will get picked apart by Eli Manning, and that will open up for a healthy dose of Ahmad Bradshaw and the returning Brandon Jacobs.

Prediction: Giants 42, Dolphins 17

No. 2: New Orleans Saints at St. Louis Rams

4 of 5

I have a feeling that this is going to look like the one-sided affair the Saints had last week when they beat the snot out of the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football.

If it’s possible, the St. Louis Rams could be just as bad as the Colts this season, and Drew Brees will abuse them like he did the Colts before.

This game has the feel of a blowout, and the only thing that can slow down the Saints' offensive juggernaut will be a big day from the Rams' Steven Jackson.

It will slow New Orleans down, but it won’t stop them.

Prediction: Saints 44, Rams 10

No. 1: San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs

5 of 5

After a heartbreaking loss to the New York Jets, the San Diego Chargers are looking to show the NFL that they are still one of the best teams in the league by making an example of division rival Kansas City.

Philip Rivers has a mean streak to him, and he will pick apart a depleted Chiefs secondary with a barrage of precise passes to receivers, tight ends and running backs.

The Chargers boast one of the best defenses in the NFL, and a mediocre Chiefs offense won’t be able to get anything going against them on Sunday.

Prediction: Chargers 24, Kansas City 17
