NFL Power Rankings Week 8: Ranking All of the 32 Teams

John RozumOct 26, 2011

Throughout eight weeks in the 2011 NFL season, there's still a lot of answers to be had. Obviously, they remain to be seen, but it's been an exciting season nonetheless.

With that, here are the complete power rankings for Week 8.

1. Green Bay Packers (7-0) (LW 1)

Despite a weak pass defense, Green Bay keeps winning. As long as the offense continues to dominate, all the defense has to do is get a few stops, and it's game over.

2. New England Patriots (5-1) (LW 3)

After the Week 3 loss to Buffalo, New England has ran off three straight and is coming off a bye-week. And, as long as Tom Brady is under center, the Patriots are the standard in the AFC.

3. New Orleans Saints (5-2) (LW 4)

Both of the Saints' losses have come on the road in one-score games, but they're virtually unbeatable at home when the city of New Orleans is directly behind them.

4. San Francisco 49ers (5-1) (LW 5)

Two road wins at Cincinnati and Detroit have silenced the critics of their Week 2 choke-job at home against Dallas. Although the NFC West is collectively weak, the 49ers are just the opposite.

5. Baltimore Ravens (4-2) (LW 2)

It was a tough loss on the road in Jacksonville where the Jaguars do play very well. That said, a home game versus Arizona can help build confidence for the Ravens thereafter.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) (LW 7)

Pittsburgh has yet to beat a team with a winning record, but they're gradually building confidence as they prepare for a tough five game stretch from Weeks 8-13 (bye in Week 11).

7. New York Giants (4-2) (LW 10)

It's uncertain how good the New York Giants really are. Well, we'll find out sooner rather than later when they travel to New England in Week 9.

8. Houston Texans (4-3 )(LW 12)

Houston is playing very well without WR Andre Johnson and LB Mario Williams. However, Week 8 will be very telling as they travel to Jacksonville and play a confident Jaguars team.

9. Buffalo Bills (4-2) (LW 11)

The Bills have two winnable games in the Redskins and Jets coming up, but three straight road games afterward will reveal their true identity as Buffalo's both losses have come on the road.

10. Detroit Lions (5-2) (LW 6)

They started 5-0 but have dropped two straight at home. Remember the 2007 Lions? Began 6-2 but finished 7-9. For their sake, let's hope this is not an omen.

11. Chicago Bears (4-3) (LW 13)

The Bears' three losses have come against Green Bay, New Orleans (away), and Detroit (away). If there's a sleeping NFC playoff contender, it's Chicago.

12. New York Jets (4-3) (LW 14)

Winning at home against San Diego was a must-win but not overly impressive. If the Jets want to impress anybody, they must beat Buffalo and New England in Weeks 9 and 10.

13. San Diego Chargers (4-2) (LW 8)

The Bolts have yet to beat a team with a winning record, and both losses have come on the road. In a wide-open AFC West and traveling to a confident Chiefs team in Week 8, San Diego is in some trouble.

14. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) (LW 16)

Weeks 8 and 9 will tell us how mature this young Bengals team really is, because they travel to Seattle and Tennessee consecutively. Say what you want about both teams, but Cincy still has to prove they can play at a high level of consistency.

15. Dallas Cowboys (3-3) (LW 17)

The home blowout over the Rams was imperative, but playing at Philadelphia on Monday night is going to be a turning point. The question is whether Dallas can fend off their choke-job demons.

16. Atlanta Falcons (4-3) (LW 19)

After their Week 8 bye, the Falcons play at Indianapolis then come home for three straight. Could Atlanta really be 8-3 heading into December?

17. Oakland Raiders (4-3) (LW 9)

If the Raiders don't win anything this season it's going to be a while before anything positive happens. Trading away your draft does not bode well for the future, especially when you have four QBs and no legit starter.

18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3) (LW 15)

Tampa Bay may be a better team at home than away, but that's not going to get them deep into the playoffs. That is, if they even make the playoffs.

19. Philadelphia Eagles (2-4) (LW 20)

Philadelphia appears to be getting back on track, but the No. 23 ranked rush defense still needs a lot of work. Especially with the Dallas Cowboys coming into The City of Brotherly Love this week.

20. Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) (LW 23)

After the 0-3 start the Chiefs looked like 2011 was going to be one of the worst seasons in NFL history. However, K.C. has won three straight and has caught fire NBA Jam style.

21. Tennessee Titans (3-3) (LW 18)

With no stud WR and an RB in Chris Johnson who's severely looking overrated, Tennessee is gradually moving to the bottom of the food chain.

22. Carolina Panthers (2-5) (LW 24)

If there's one team who's gone all-out each week, it's the Carolina Panthers. Their schedule has been brutal, however, they're earning the respect of their opponents, and Carolina could very finish closer to .500 than expected.

23. Denver Broncos (2-4) (LW 27)

Tim Tebow may be the answer at QB but beating Miami doesn't prove anything. If the Broncos are to make some noise, upsetting the Lions at home should suffice.

24. Cleveland Browns (3-3) (LW 28)

The Browns have three wins against teams with a combined record of 2-17. Until Cleveland can consistently play better against stronger teams, the Browns will remain near the bottom.

25. Washington Redskins (3-3) (LW 21)

The Redskins have a very good defense, but it's not good enough to compensate for the sad offense. And although the NFC East is still open, it's closing faster on Washington than anyone else.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-5) (LW 29)

If only the Jaguars would play that Monday night game as tough on the road as they do at home, they'd be an AFC South contender. However, rookie QB Blaine Gabbert has shown much potential.

27. Seattle Seahawks (2-4) (LW 22)

Seattle's road woes continue to hurt them, as does their poor offense. Therefore, don't expect them to play much better when hosting in The Great Northwest.

28. Minnesota Vikings (1-6) (LW 25)

Regardless of how many yards RB Adrian Peterson gains, it's not going to be enough to oust a team whose offense can actually throw the football. Rookie QB Christian Ponder is Minny's best option under center, but he was given the nod a few weeks too late.

29. Arizona Cardinals (1-5) (LW 26)

The trade for a QB in Kevin Kolb may turn out to be a bust if he doesn't improve in 2012. That said, depending on how 2011 turns out, don't be surprised if Arizona drafts a QB.

30. St. Louis Rams (0-6) (LW 30)

There's too much going wrong in St. Louis to even fathom right now. Maybe they'll make some good moves in the offseason to help out QB Sam Bradford.

31. Indianapolis Colts (0-7) (LW 31)

You can't fault the Colts for losing that badly on the road to the Saints. Indy has been giving great effort all season, but they just were way overmatched in The Big Easy.

32. Miami Dolphins (0-6) (LW 32)

Say what you will, but this is the worst team in pro football. A very weak backup QB, a defense that allowed 18 unanswered points to Denver, a head coach on the hot-seat, and a WR who's frustrated.

Miami doesn't have the injury excuse for their losses—they'd still would lose with Chad Henne. They're just simply that bad and have no confidence whatsoever.
