Week 8 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: 10 Injuries You Should Be Monitoring

Daniel ChristianOct 26, 2011

As fantasy owners, one of the most important things we can do weekly is make sure that all of our "questionables" are ready to go. Game time decisions can often be tough to peg, and with 90 minutes before game time, you find yourself scanning the waiver wires, hoping to find somebody—anybody—that could produce.

Well, if you have a big time player who is potentially banged up, look no further than the next 10 slides to see if you should be monitoring their injuries.

Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts

1 of 10

Joseph Addai re-aggravated his hamstring injury on Sunday while the Colts were absolutely throttled by the Saints.

Addai's likelihood of playing is slim, and even if he comes back, it looks like the rookie out of Syracuse, Delone Carter, is seeing more success and might just get a heavy workload.

Addai probably won't suit up this week, but I'd be apprehensive even upon his return with Carter in the fold.

Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions

2 of 10

Jahvid Best proved just how valuable he is to the Lions as they fell to the Atlanta Falcons while failing to establish any sort of ground game.

Best also likely won't suit up this weekend, but it's worth it to keep an eye out because he'll be back soon.

He's not exactly your every down back, yet he's being forced to be one as the Lions are thin at the position. His explosiveness is what makes him such a viable fantasy option when healthy.

He's turned into a must play whose inconsistent results can often plague your team. However, when he's feeling it, all is good in the world of fantasy.

Andre Johnson, Houston Texans

3 of 10

Andre Johnson is arguably the best receiver in the league when healthy, and it looks like this is the week he gets back on the field.

He's a must start against Jacksonville, despite their stingy defense.

He won't produce like he has in the past as it may take him a week or two to fully get back in the swing of things, but Johnson owners couldn't be happier. Their star can finally be uprooted from his dreadful spot on fantasy benches, and be inserted into the starting lineup.

Peyton Hillis, Cleveland Browns

4 of 10

Peyton Hillis is considered a day-to-day option for next week as his hamstring nags him.

Nothing is more annoying than strained hammy, but Hillis, in the midst of a contract year, needs to perform.

If he does indeed go, you obviously start him, but still don't expect excellent production. He'll probably duplicate the success of your number two back. If not , he may stoop below his level for a week or two while he recovers.

Felix Jones, Dallas Cowboys

5 of 10

Felix Jones owners should be very worried right about now.

Not only is his starting job in jeopardy, but he can't do anything about it as he sits on the bench, while his high left ankle sprain keeps him off the field.

He's doubtful to play this week, and truthfully, doubtful to be the 'Boys starting back for the rest of the season. DeMarco Murray came onto the scene in a big way last week, and Jones owners should be nervous moving forward, even when he does return.

Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers

6 of 10

Antonio Gates played last week and did fairly well, snagging his first touchdown pass of the season.

Still, you need to understand that Gates is still being nagged by a sore foot.

He'll definitely be on the field come Sunday, but he probably won't be 100 percent. Just something to keep in mind.

Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks

7 of 10

Marshawn Lynch, much like Hillis, is very questionable for this week's play. He might go, he might not.

Lynch is being held back by a back injury that is making his production for the coming week or two, even if he plays, look minimal.

He wasn't a must before the injuries, but still a viable one. This will really tank his fantasy value until he is back to full health.

Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

8 of 10

Matthew Stafford suffered a sprained ankle on Sundays game against the Falcons and his status for the coming week is questionable.

Stafford is a must-go if playing as he has turned into one of the most consistent fantasy options thanks to Calvin Johnson's 10 touchdowns through seven games.

Stafford will be limited if he plays at all this week, but remember that "Megatron" can catch any pass thrown his way, so Stafford owners should be fine either way.

Willis McGahee, Denver Broncos

9 of 10

Willis McGahee has largely taken over for Knoshown Moreno, but is being hindered by a fractured right hand.

McGahee is sure to miss next week's game against the Lions, giving Moreno some more value, but even next week's game is in jeopardy.

McGahee has turned into a solid start, but if Moreno starts to play well in his absence, Denver could turn back to him.

Beanie Wells, Arizona Cardinals

10 of 10

Arguably the most important question of the week is, "will Beanie Wells play on Sunday?"

The answer is, "not likely " as Wells continues to be slowed by a knee injury that will likely require surgery.

The back out of Ohio State has rushed for over 400 yards and crossed the plane six times, making him an absolute stud thus far this season.

He likely won't go on Sunday, so make sure you take him out of his well deserved and cemented starting spot.
