Tim Lincecum's 8 Biggest Controversies

Tim Lincecum played a key role in the San Francisco Giants winning the 2010 World Series. A unique talent, Lincecum is the first player in MLB history to win the Cy Young award in each of his first full years.

Despite his on-the-field greatness, Lincecum has had some off-the-field difficulties that have been quite controversial.

His career ERA is under 3.00 and he has averaged more than one strikeout per inning pitched. During the Giant's championship run in 2010, Lincecum was the winning pitcher in the first games of the NLDS, NLCS and the World Series. In addition he won the deciding fifth game of the World Series.

Nevertheless, he sometimes gets more headlines with his personality and quirky behavior.

I'll Get by with a Little Help from My Friends

In 2009 Lincecum was arrested for possession of marijuana.

During the 2010 World Series some reporters and Rangers players apparently complained that they smelled pot in the stands.

So whatever is going on here isn't good, and needs to be nipped in the bud (or the weed) promptly!

Beefing Up with Junk Food

Since there was concern about his fragility and longevity in light of his slim build, Lincecum decided to beef up on junk food.

Sure we know that we want to keep steroids and human growth hormone out of the game. But how about pumping a little iron or trying some healthy foods instead. 

Trashing His Apartment

In October 2011, Lincecum was sued for trashing his rental apartment. 

You never can tell whether or not this was just a stunt by the landlord to advertise the open unit, but this is clearly not a good thing for his or the team's public image.

More Hair ?

As if the long hair was not enough, Lincecum toyed with the idea of sporting a mustache.

Maybe he was jealous of Brian Wilson, but he has a long way to go to be in that category.

Lincecum Rips the Commissioner

Lincecum had these words for Bud Selig's plan to expand the playoff field, "I don't know where his head is at."

Dropping the F Bomb

A live interview with Lincecum had to be bleeped out after the celebration of the Giants winning the 2010 National League pennant.

However, the bleeping is not perfect and the interview might include language that you find to be offensive.

So in addition to cleaning up his diet and his apartment, Lincecum might need to clean up his language as well.

Playing Video Soccer

He took on and defeated soccer star Landon Donovan in a FIFA soccer video game.

Note that Lincecum took the opportunity to rip Donovan about his hair, while Donovan ripped him about not being able to hit.

Hopefully they were not gambling on the outcome of the game !

Lincecum the Rock Star

Lincecum is preparing for his post-baseball career.

Since NFL players are showing their stuff on Dancing with the Stars, maybe Lincecum should try out for American Idol.
