WWE News: Triple H Suffers "Fractured Vertebrae," out 6 Weeks

T. SchaeferOct 25, 2011

"Kevin Nash had an ax and gave his friend Trips 40 whacks"

Okay, so it wasn't an ax, but I needed something to open the article.

For those who saw Raw last night, Triple H suffered a rather graphic, if cumbersome, assault by Kevin Nash.  Nash took a sledgehammer and gave a shot to The Game's back, which resulted in him convulsing, foaming at the mouth and being taken away to a "medical facility."

Why they never say "hospital" is beyond me.

Anyway, WWE.com posted a follow up article from the assault.

"

Dr. Chris Amann has provided WWE.com with an injury update on Triple H.

The WWE COO has suffered fractured vertebrae from the two sledgehammer attacks he received from Kevin Nash on Raw SuperShow. Amann told WWE.com that The Game will be out of action for at least six weeks due to the injuries he sustained. The diagnosis was made at the Austin, Texas, medical facility that Triple H was rushed to after the attacks.

"

Of course, this is very likely an angle to get Triple H off TV for a while, but the question is why?

Well, two reasons are possible.  The first is the widely expected lead into an angle between a reformed NWO and DX.  Headlineplanet.com, via PWInsider, noted a rumor that the WWE was considering having HBK return as part of such an angle.  Recall also that Triple H dropped the names of Shawn Michaels and Sean "X Pac" Waltman during the opening segment.

Though I wasn't a fan of the opening segment, it did serve its purpose.  Since Nash returned and began using the old NWO theme song, one had to wonder when (not if) they were going to go that direction.

The second reason could be Survivor Series.  Recall that the WWE sold out Madison Square Garden in 90 minutes on hype that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would be, at the very least, appearing, if not wrestling.

The storyline came to bare fruit last night when Cena "formally" asked The Rock to be his tag partner against Awesome Truth at Survivor Series.  It's pretty obvious the WWE is focusing heavily on the storyline to sell it, with secondary focus on Punk/Del Rio and whatever they wish to do with the heavyweight championship.

Needless to say, that's a full plate.  But any DX/NWO feud could draw heat away from the Rock/Cena storyline.  No reason to blow the entire thing when having such a huge angle in reserve makes more sense.

However, considering the WWE wants to use the Rock/Cena storyline through WrestleMania, they will need something else to build besides that particular money feud.   Going forward, they could use an NWO/D-Generation X storyline to carry Raw all they through to the Royal Rumble, where the focus will then switch back to Rock and Cena.

As these things go, we'll simply need to see what happens.
