Week 8 Waiver Wire: Christian Ponder and Other QBs to Potentially Add

Zach KruseOct 25, 2011

Once a running back dominated game, fantasy football now rides on the backs of quarterbacks from week-to-week. If you don't have one, it's simply hard to win over the long haul.

If you need one, these three names are worth a crack on the Week 8 waiver wire.

Christian Ponder, Minnesota Vikings

The stats don't jump off the page at you, but color me impressed after Ponder's first NFL start against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Ponder completed 13-of-32 passes for over 200 yards and a couple of scores. He did throw two interceptions, but that's almost to be expected against the Packers, who rank No. 1 in the NFL in interceptions. Ponder's ability to convert third downs would have made it tough to label him a rookie if you didn't know better.

With Adrian Peterson in the backfield, Ponder won't always be asked to do it all, either. He might not be a fantasy life saver, but Ponder certainly has some long-term potential at the quarterback position.

Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos

The percentage of leagues that Tebow is owned in is rapidly increasing, and it's likely that's he already been scooped up in yours. If he's not and you need a quarterback, don't hesitate. Whether you like the guy or not, Tebow can score fantasy points in bunches. He hardly made a fantasy dent for the first 55 minutes on Sunday against the Dolphins, but Tebow still finished with the 10th most fantasy points regardless of position.

As the Broncos go-to-guy in the red zone and near the goal line, Tebow will always have the potential to put up Cam Newton-like numbers on a week-to-week basis. Get him now before he's gone.

Sam Bradford, St. Louis

Bradford certainly hasn't had the kind of season many thought he would have in 2011, but there's been a myriad of factors for that downfall. It's too long of list to go into detail in this space. However, there's also some reasons to think it might start to turn around. Bradford finally has a receiver that catch the ball in Brandon Lloyd, which immediately increases his value.

The schedule is also nice over the next several weeks: at New Orleans (should be down = plenty of passing), at Arizona, at Cleveland, at Seattle and Arizona again.

Bradford would definitely came after Ponder and Tebow on my priority list, but he can be an adequate fill in if you desperately need someone now.
