NFL Picks Week 8: 5 Teams Sure to Cover the Spread

Bryant WestOct 26, 2011

As we enter the halfway point of the NFL season, Week 8 features a large selection of interesting games and spreads for fans to take advantage of.

Green Bay, the unbeaten favorites are off this week, but even without them there are a number of games that feature squads that are almost sure to cover their spreads.

Also off this week are Atlanta, Chicago, the New York Jets, Oakland, and Tampa Bay.

Let's take a look at five squads that are sure to cover their spreads.

All odds and spreads are courtesy of footballlocks.com.

New York Giants (-10) Against Miami Dolphins

1 of 5

The winless Dolphins head up to New York to face the 4-2 Giants. Miami gave up 15 straight points in less than three minutes to Tim Tebow's Broncos—if they can give up that much to Tebow, they'll give that up to Eli Manning.

The Giants, meanwhile, are coming off their bye week and must absolutely take advantage of hapless Miami if they want to get some serious attention.

Expect Manning and the Giants to torch the Dolphins. The Giants are no contenders, but they're definitely good enough to cover this spread against football's worst team.

Buffalo Bills (-6) Against Washington Redskins

2 of 5

Buffalo is coming off a bye week and play at home where they haven't lost yet this season.

Washington, meanwhile, lost last week to the Carolina Panthers 33-20 and after a promising start to the season are quickly falling into disarray.

The Redskins lost running back Tim Hightower for the season with a knee injury and wide receiver Santana Moss for five to seven weeks with a broken hand.

The Redskins' Rex Grossman has been one of the leagues most inconsistent quarterbacks, while the Buffalo secondary, led by safety George Wilson, have the leagues' second most interceptions at 12 so far this season.

The bye week also gives Buffalo's Fred Jackson, the NFL's leading rusher, a chance to rest and he should dominate against the Redskins.

San Diego Chargers (-3.5) Against Kansas City Chiefs

3 of 5

Kansas City is coming off an utter demolition of the Oakland Raiders last week and now head into San Diego to face the AFC West leader.

Despite the Chief's 28-0 win last week, the Chargers will cover the spread here. Kansas City has won three straight games and took advantage of the Raiders quarterback ineptitude last week, but San Diego has too much at stake in this game to come out flat.

After loosing 27-21 to the Jets last week, the Chargers are 4-2 and a loss to Kansas City would actually put the Chiefs at the top of the division. San Diego is at home and after last week's somewhat limp performance, expect them to recover. Simply put, San Diego is the more talented team.

This will be the game where San Diego reminds people that they are a serious playoff squad, and at the same time they'll remind fans why we wrote Kansas City off in the first place.

Houston Texans (-10) Against Jacksonville Jaguars

4 of 5

Jacksonville took advantage of a very sloppy Baltimore last week in their 12-7 upset over the Ravens.

The Texans, meanwhile, are coming off a 41-7 demolition of the Tennessee Titans—a much better overall team than Jacksonville can hope to be this season.

Arian Foster had two rushing touchdowns with 115 yards and also caught a touchdown in the victory. Jacksonville's rush defense is actually fairly solidgood for tenth best in the league—but while their defense is fairly sufficient, their offense has scored the second least amount of points on the season.

Foster and the Texans are at home and will easily cover the spread against the Jaguars.

New Orleans Saints (-13) Against St. Louis Rams

5 of 5

The Saints are coming off an absolutely brutal 62-7 victory over the Colts last week where Drew Brees had five touchdowns and 335 yards on 31 of 35 completions. New Orleans features the leagues highest scoring offense and head out to St. Louis to take on the league's lowest scoring squad.

The Rams are coming off a 34-7 loss to Dallas and will likely play their second straight game without quarterback Sam Bradfordaccording to John Clayton of ESPN

The Rams aren't quite the pushovers that the Colts are, but the Saints are healthy and will easily beat St. Louis by two or more scores.
