WWE Vengeance 2011 Results: Alberto Del Rio's Feud with CM Punk Is Perfect Match

Adam WellsOct 25, 2011

CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio are two peas in one very crowded pod. At Vengeance on Sunday night, both men were booked to look like afterthoughts in their respective matches. The difference is Del Rio won and Punk lost.

Given that these two men have had similar fates in WWE and at Vengeance, it would make sense to put them in a WWE championship match at Survivor Series.

If you want to gripe about Punk being pinned on the pay-per-view then asking to get a title shot at the next big show, you would have a valid point except that wins and losses have not mattered in WWE for years.

Punk is benefiting from the circumstances of every other main event worker being locked up in another feud heading into Survivor Series.

Del Rio—who believe it or not is still WWE champion, though you would never know it considering how little he is actually talked about on television—has no one else to work with because the only person he has feuded with as champion is John Cena.

But since Cena is locked into a tag match with The Rock, there was no one else for Del Rio to wrestle at Survivor Series except Punk.

Now Punk is strong enough on the microphone to get the match over, but in typical WWE fashion the championship will take a backseat to other things going on.

Punk has done nothing to warrant getting a title shot at Survivor Series. He should be involved in the Triple H and Kevin Nash feud based on the way things left off with them back in September, but WWE completely ignored that story.

On the bright side, since WWE is not afraid to have Punk lose in a singles match, Del Rio will finally be booked to look like a strong champion.

The bad news is it will come about one month too late, because the fans have already determined that Del Rio is a joke.

But, as was already pointed out, wins and losses mean absolutely nothing in today’s wrestling world. That is why CM Punk is getting the title shot in the first place.
