Week 8 Fantasy Football Rankings: Mike Wallace and Top 7 Receivers
Week 8 of the 2011 NFL season promises to be another great week for wide receivers in the NFL's golden age of passing.
Studs like Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson are off this week, but others will fill the void.
Which wide receivers are sure to have a huge game this week?
Here are Week 8's top seven receivers.
7. A.J Green
1 of 7This Week: at Seattle
The rookie to rookie connection between Andy Dalton and A.J Green is making people take notice, to the tune of 454 yards and four scores.
Green has reached the end zone in his last two games, and the trend should continue against Seattle, who, with the exception of last week's loss to the Browns, have been rather poor on pass defense.
6. Hakeem Nicks
2 of 7This Week: vs. Miami
Fresh off a bye week, Nicks, who has already amassed over 500 receiving yards, is ready to rise again. He and the Giants won't face much competition against notable "Suck for Luck" candidate Miami.
Expect Nicks to have his third 100-plus yard game of 2011.
5. Dwayne Bowe
3 of 7This Week: vs. Chargers
At first glance, the Chargers pass defense appears to be stingy, giving up just 176 yards per game. But, when considering the quality (or lack thereof) of their opponents, they lose their luster.
Bowe has been heating up of late, with 311 yards and three TD's in his last three games. He already scored on the Chargers earlier this season; expect him to do it at least once more.
4. Steve Smith
4 of 7This Week: vs. Minnesota
Steve Smith's Cam Newton fueled renaissance has continued. Smith had 143 yards last week, bringing his league leading total to an incredible 818 yards.
And the news gets even better. This week, the Vikings, who have given up 275 pass yards a game, are coming to town. Expect another big game from Smith.
3. Wes Welker
5 of 7This Week: at Pittsburgh
Wes Welker is on pace for nearly 2,000 receiving yards. His success over the middle has epitomized the NFL passing revolutions.
Can anything stop Wes Welker? Well, perhaps Pittsburgh's D can. They've only allowed 172 pass yards per game, tops in the NFL. Even a slowed down Welker, however, will get his share of catches and yards.
2. Mike Wallace
6 of 7This Week: vs. New England
Wallace proved why he is the game's biggest deep threat Week 7, hooking up with Ben Roethlisberger for a 95-yard TD. He is now averaging over 20 yards a reception.
The Patriots' offense is a juggernaut, but their defense is anything but. They've allowed opponents to average 322 pass yards against them. All the pieces are in place for Wallace to explode in this pivotal matchup.
1. Calvin Johnson
7 of 7After being held without a touchdown for the first time in 2011 by the San Francisco 49ers, Megatron was back in full force Week 7, capping off a 115-yard performance with a 57-yard touchdown catch.
Johnson has now caught 10 TD's in just seven games.
Don't expect Denver's thoroughly mediocre D to contain him. Johnson will break 100 yards and add at least one touchdown to his dazzling total.
