NHL Predictions: George Parros and 5 Players Who Will Fight Most in 2012

Sam KellyOct 24, 2011

Anaheim Ducks enforcer George Parros is arguably the most renowned fighter in the NHL

The 31-year-old winger weighs in at 6'5", 228 pounds and has posted five consecutive seasons with at least 100 penalty minutes.

Parros is not the only distinguished brawler in the league, though. Each team has at least one player who is relied on to play a relentlessly physical game and stick up for his teammates when called upon.

Here are five players who will drop the gloves the most in 2011-12.

Brandon Prust

1 of 5

A rare breed of enforcer who can skate, kill penalties and chip in the odd goal (he had 13 last season), Brandon Prust is an integral part of the New York Rangers' bottom six and is among the league's most skilled brawlers.

The lightweight winger put up 160 penalty minutes last year and earned 18 fighting majors.

Prust brings a lot to the table for the Rangers on a nightly basis and never hesitates to drop the gloves when the time is right.

Zenon Konopka

2 of 5

Zenon Konopka led the league in penalty minutes last season with a whopping 307 minutes spent in the sin bin, almost 100 minutes more than runner-up Chris Neil. Some 125 of those 307 minutes came from fighting majors.

Now an Ottawa Senator, Konopka has already registered 34 penalty minutes in just five games played so far this season.

At 6 feet and just 209 pounds, Konopka is smaller than many of the NHL's skill players. Still, he doesn't let that stop him from throwing down with the league's heavyweights.

Colton Orr

3 of 5

After four seasons as the New York Rangers' resident tough guy, Colton Orr signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the summer of 2009 and posted 239 penalty minutes his first year as a Leaf.

Orr fought 14 times in just 46 games last season and, though he's known to lose a good amount of his scraps, is always prepared to take on the NHL's toughest customers.

Derek Dorsett

4 of 5

With Jared Boll sidelined with a broken thumb, the Columbus Blue Jackets will look for 24-year-old winger Derek Dorsett to take over the enforcer role.

Drafted in 2006, Dorsett quickly earned himself an NHL roster spot in 2008 at age 21. Now three years into his professional career, he has posted at least 100 penalty minutes each season.

Dorsett dropped the gloves 18 times in 2010-11 and registered a total of 184 penalty minutes. The up-and-coming enforcer is well on his way to establishing himself as one of the league's best bruisers.

George Parros

5 of 5

One of the most respected and dominant enforcers in NHL history, George Parros is equipped with two rocks for fists and the league's coolest facial hair.

He led the NHL in fighting majors last season with 27 and, unsurprisingly, won almost all of them.

Don't be surprised to see Parros' name atop the fighting majors leader board again in 2011-12.
