Ravens vs Jaguars: Which Stars Will Shine on Monday Night Football?

Chris TrapassoOct 24, 2011

Hopefully the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars can provide us with a little more competition on Monday Night Football compared to what we saw last evening.

The Ravens are the better team on paper, but the Jaguars were surprisingly competitive against the Steelers last week.

Which stars will shine in his prime-time showdown?

Terrell Suggs

Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are the most visible Ravens defenders, staples of Baltimore's decade reign as one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Not that he's underrated, but Terrell Suggs may be the most terrorizing player on the team, especially for opposing quarterbacks.

He enters the game with four sacks and coming off the edge, at 6'3'', 260 pound nine year veteran should have a huge evening in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars have already allowed 17 sacks this season and Suggs is unquestionably the most talented and powerful pass rusher they've faced.

Look out, Blaine Gabbert.

Maurice Jones-Drew

MJD will have a respectable game tonight.

Why?

Despite a bad start to the season, the Pro-Bowl runner hasn't disappointed.

He's averaging 4.8 yards per carry and has rushed for more than 84 yards in his last three games against the Saints, Bengals and Steelers, all teams with formidable front fours.

The Ravens are the most stingy run defense he's faced this season, but in order to limit the pass rushing ability of their defense, Jacksonville will lean on Jones-Drew in this one, leading to another solid effort.

Ed Reed

Blaine Gabbert has the potential to a fine quarterback in this league someday, but he has a long way to go. He hasn't completed more than 16 passes in a game and has struggled with accuracy.

Be ready for the Ravens to dial up all their blitzes tonight against the rookie which should lead to some hurried throws.

That's where Reed comes in.

He hasn't had an interception since he reeled in two of Ben Roethlisberger's errant tosses on the season opener.

I'd say he's due and Reed has a great chance to make a crucial pick tonight.
