Tim Tebow: Why the Detroit Lions Will Send the Golden Boy Back to Earth
In Sunday's game against Miami, Tim Tebow pulled off a miraculous win for the Denver Broncos, starting with a 15-point comeback with less than three minutes left in the game.
In that fourth quarter, he showed everyone the Florida style that led to his successful years with the Gators.
All of his fans believe that this is "Tebow Time." This is the man that is going to bring the Broncos around. But unless Tim Tebow changes or improves in several aspects of his game, he isn't going to be taking the Broncos anywhere.
This Golden Boy struggled through the first 3.5 quarters against Miami, and if there is one thing that he should know, it's that he isn't going to pull off a fourth-quarter miracle win against the Detroit Lions next week.
Here are five reasons why the Detroit Lions will be sending Tim Tebow back to Earth.
Tebow's Lack of Passing Yards
1 of 5Tim Tebow completed 13 of his 27 attempted passes for 161 yards, and 137 of those passing yards happened in the fourth quarter.
For three quarters, he only threw for 24 yards. Even if the Broncos' offense tries to improve around Tim Tebow, the Detroit Lions will provide more of a challenge for Tebow to get any passing yards.
Granted, he threw for two touchdowns and rushed for a two-point conversion, but the Lions' defense will not allow Tim Tebow to pull off a comeback like that in the last three minutes of the game. The only time the Denver Broncos made it to the red zone last week was in those last three minutes.
If Tim Tebow struggled to get any passing yards and the offense moving against a Miami passing defense who are 21st in the league, he will not get anything sparking against the Lions' passing defense, who are seventh in the league.
Tebow's Mediocre Rushing Yards
2 of 5While the Detroit Lions' rushing defense is not the best in the league, they have showed in previous games that they can shut down specific and key players.
They did well against Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears. Tebow will have a hard time with the rushing style that he known for and gaining yards for his offense.
Against Miami, he rushed for 65 yards in eight carries. He may be able to perform those numbers against the Lions' defense, but it won't matter if he cannot get any first downs on the playing drive.
Lions Lighting It Up
3 of 5Whether it's Shaun Hill or Matthew Stafford, if the Lions' offense can find the spark that they had in their first five games, they will have a field day against the Broncos.
The Broncos' defense are 29th in points against, and if they perform to what their statistics indicate, the Lions' offense will be lighting up the scoreboard like fireworks.
If Denver does not cover Megatron well, Calvin Johnson will be adding more touchdown catches to his record book.
If the Lions can generate a big lead, Tim Tebow will find more pressure upon him to rally back and create a miracle in the fourth quarter.
Lions' Defense Adding Pressure
4 of 5There is one thing Tim Tebow can count on in this game, and that is getting sacked.
The Lions' defense has already generated an average of two sacks per game this season. While the Golden Boy has yet to throw an interception—either because he doesn't commit enough throws or it's been a lucky 2011 start—the Lions have 10 interceptions in seven games.
Tim Tebow had better play smart in the long distance throws, since that is where a majority of the Lions' interceptions have occurred. With Tebow's accuracy right now, the Lions will intercept at least one or two.
Kyle Vanden Bosch has three forced fumbles this year, and if he finds his way to Tebow, the red-eyed defensive end will probably force a fumble or two.
If there's one thing the Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow cannot afford to do, it is commit turnovers.
Will Tebow Be Clutch Against the Lions?
5 of 5While Tebow suddenly showed up in the fourth quarter against Miami, will it be easy for this former Gators quarterback to come up clutch against the Lions?
In fourth quarters where the Lions are trailing or winning by at least seven points, the defense steps up. They have intercepted passes at least twice in the fourth quarter—one in the last two minutes of the game. They have only allowed 10 points in the fourth quarter in the games in which they were winning.
Tim Tebow, the Golden Boy, will find it hard to merit a comeback victory against the Lions—that is, unless he can pull off another miracle.
This may be the game where the Detroit Lions will knock Tim Tebow back with them to Earth.
