Tim Tebow: Epic Comeback by Broncos QB Still Doesn't Mean He's the Future

Tim KeeneyOct 23, 2011

Tim Tebow was bad for three quarters. Then, when the Denver Broncos needed him most, he turned it on and led a 15-point comeback to force overtime. The Broncos went on to win in the extra period.

Even though Tebow struggled through the majority of the game, many people will come out of this one thinking his performance doesn't matter as long as he won the game.

"Congrats to @TimTebow for that comeback win today," tweeted the king of the fourth quarter himself, LeBron James. "Impressive! He's just a winner."

Yeah, he's just a winner because he was playing against the Matt Moore-led Miami Dolphins.

If the Broncos were going up against almost any other team in the NFL, they would have been down way too big after the third quarter even for the great Tim Tebow to make a comeback.

Tebow has the Dolphins and his defense to thank for "his" comeback, which is what everyone seems to be deeming it.

Even in overtime, it was the defense that recovered a fumble on their side of the field that set up a field goal. Tebow didn't have to do anything.

Now, don't think I'm taking anything away from Tebow here. He clearly has a very thick backbone and he no doubt had an impressive fourth quarter.

But, to quote Dennis Green, Tebow is who we think he is.

Look at those first three quarters.

In the first 75 percent of the game, the former Florida QB was 4-of-9 for 33 yards. He never showed the ability to complete throws downfield and couldn't move the ball as Denver was shut out.

Even during that amazing fourth-quarter comeback, Tebow only completed 50 percent of his throws.

He may have established himself as a true "winner," but Tebow wasn't good in this game. It's as simple of that.

The Dolphins aren't over-intimidating on defense and Tebow wasn't able to take advantage. He was mediocre against a mediocre team.

But, for some reason, because Miami couldn't pull away, couldn't put the game away and probably have some extra incentive for Andrew Luck, Tim Tebow comes out looking like a hero.

Again, Tebow clearly has the intangibles to be an NFL football player, but I'm still unconvinced he has the throwing skills.

He played good football for eight important minutes of this game, and I commend him for that. But against most teams, eight good minutes of football will get you one thing.

A loss.
