The 10 Most Disappointing NFL Players of 2011
Has anyone put out an APB on Chris Johnson yet?
CJ2K has been more like CJ268 after six games this season, but he's far from alone when it comes to disappointing players this season.
I'm talking about elite QBs who have more turnovers than they do TDs, elite running backs who can't get more than three yards per carry, and receivers who aren't doing much receiving of anything.
You can argue all you want, but in my mind, these are the 10 most disappointing players in the NFL so far this season. And I promise any bitterness springing from my fantasy team only played a part in three of these selections.
No. 10: Sam Bradford
1 of 10Nobody expected Sam Bradford to lead the Rams to the Super Bowl this year. That being said, they did expect a little bit more than 3 TDs in five games for the second-year former No. 1 pick.
Bradford's completion percentage has dropped from 60 percent to just 53, and he's already turned the ball over five times.
It wasn't long ago that Bradford seemed like one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league. Now he's just an afterthought.
No. 9: Tony Romo
2 of 10I don't know if anyone in the NFL has as many irrational haters as Tony Romo, except for maybe Tim Tebow, but this year Romo has earned that criticism.
Just six games into the season, he was already on pace to match his career high in interceptions with one of his lowest TD outputs ever.
But more than stats are concerned, the Cowboys are only 3-3 and probably should be 5-1, and Romo has a lot to do with that.
He made some crucial mistakes in the opening game of the season against the Jets that led to a loss, and he basically gave the game away to the Lions in Week 5.
I'm sorry, but Dallas isn't going to do anything until Romo steps up his game when it really matters, and he hasn't so far.
No. 8: Reggie Wayne
3 of 10We knew that Reggie Wayne wouldn't have his usual great season without Peyton Manning, but he has been such a no-show so far that's it's been really shocking. It's been offset even more by the emergence of Pierre Garcon as the go-to guy in Indy.
Curtis Painter may not be Manning, but he's actually putting up some pretty good stats. But he has yet to find any sort of rhythm with Wayne.
I wonder if Wayne will have better luck with Andrew Luck next year...
No. 7: JerMichael Finley
4 of 10Before he got hurt at the beginning of last season, we were all expecting JerMichael Finley to be the next great TE in the NFL. He has the skill set of a WR and the best QB in the league throwing to him. It seemed like a no-brainer.
The same was expected this year, and it's been a big letdown. With the exception of one huge game against Chicago, Finley has been pedestrian.
Taking away that one game, Finley has 18 catches in 6 games for 250 yards and one TD. Maybe if he could hang on to the ball more, Rodgers wouldn't have to find 12 other guys to throw to all the time.
No. 6: Reggie Bush
5 of 10Reggie Bush finally got a new start in Miami and, after the first game of the season, it looked like he may have actually found a great situation, going for 94 total yards and a TD against the Pats.
Since then? Just 235 total yards in five games, no touchdowns and three fumbles.
Yeah, I think we can cancel that Reggie Bush comeback parade. Hard to believe that Bush could disappoint us more than he already has in his career, but he's accomplished that.
No. 5: Rashard Mendenhall
6 of 10Coming off a great 2010, nobody expected anything different for Rashard Mendenhall and the Steelers. Only somebody forgot to tell Rashard.
He's been dealing with some injuries, but when he's been in the game this year he has been less than spectacular. Aside from one big game against a terrible Jaguars team, Mendenhall has been averaging 2.9 YPC.
And coming off that great game, Mendenhall responded with just 32 yards on 13 carries. That's not the way to capitalize.
To make matters worse, the Steelers have a couple of young guys, Redman and Dwyer, who are right on his heels, taking some of his carries.
No. 4: Michael Vick
7 of 10After an otherworldly 2010, there had to be some sort of slippage for Vick in 2011, right?
Right, but we didn't expect it to be this much.
Dealing with a bunch of pesky injuries, Vick's QB Rating has gone down to 84.4 compared to last year's 100.2. Not only that, but he's already thrown eight picks and fumbled the ball seven times compared to nine touchdowns.
The Eagles have a lot of problems this season, but Vick is one of their biggest this season. If he can't turn his play around, Philly is looking at ending up as one of the most disappointing teams in NFL history.
No. 3: Peyton Hillis
8 of 10The Madden posterboy has been dealing with injuries this season, but he's been so disappointing when he's been on the field that the Browns were rumored to have been shopping him already.
In the four games he's played so far, Hillis has just 211 yards and his two TDs came in one game against the lowly Colts.
The Madden Curse is usually about injuries, which, of course, Hillis has, but this may be the biggest example of someone just being really, really bad the year he's put on the cover.
No. 2: Philip Rivers
9 of 10What in the world is happening to Philip Rivers?
After three straight years of a QB Rating above 100, he's hanging out at 87.6 right now after six games. More importantly, he's already got seven interceptions and four fumbles to just six touchdowns.
Seriously?
The Chargers can still probably win the AFC West with Rivers playing this poorly, but that's about all they'll do.
No. 1: Chris Johnson
10 of 10Anybody else think that Chris Johnson may have been spending a little bit too much time off the field saying he should get paid than on the field saying he should be paid?
We knew he would probably lose a step after coming in late after the contract dispute, but this is just ridiculous.
In six games, Johnson has just 268 yards with one touchdown and is averaging just 2.9 YPC. That's not the kind of production anyone is going to pay big money for.
Is this the kind of Johnson we're going to be seeing all year? Because this is just pathetic so far.
