The Red Sox have responded to the Yankees by meeting with CC as well. I don’t know exactly what they are up to, but many doubt that they are serious about landing him.

It did not take long for Boston to respond to the New York Yankees’ wooing of free-agent left-hander CC Sabathia.

On the same day that the Yankees had their second meeting with Sabathia and his representatives, the Red Sox got together with him. Boston General Manager Theo Epstein, Manager Terry Francona, and Pitching Coach John Farrell participated in the session. –Gerry Fraley

Peavy headed to the Cubs?

Padres GM Kevin Towers said there’s essentially a Jake Peavy deal in place if the Cubs are willing to sign off on it.

“There’s a package there that will satisfy us … there’s a deal in the way of names,” said Towers, who carefully stated that no deal, even in principle, has been reached.

Towers has been in contact with the Phillies and Orioles and may have agreements with both of them in what would be a three- or four-team Peavy deal. Towers did say there might be some “haggling” over the players the Padres would get in return from the Cubs.

If the Orioles are involved, it’s very likely that they’d get Felix Pie from the Cubs and send Garrett Olson to San Diego. Dec. 8 - 10:02 pm ET
