Tim Tebow: Broncos Fan Favorite Proved Nothing vs. Dolphins

Ryan RudnanskyOct 23, 2011

Uh oh, here we go.

Tim Tebow leads the Denver Broncos to victory and now the parade starts.

Tebow, who has been languishing behind veteran Kyle Orton most of his young career, was given the start Sunday against the Miami Dolphins after Orton's ugly performance in Week 5.

And after a battle to determine who could play the worst, it was the Broncos who improved their record to 2-4 after an 18-15 overtime victory.

Notice I didn't say Tebow's team, because nothing Tebow did Sunday proved he was the man to lead the Broncos to the promised land.

He may have tossed two touchdown passes and rushed for 65 yards, but he went 13-of-27, concurrent with his career completion percentage of 48.9 percent. The Broncos also scored 18 points against the Miami Dolphins—and they did so in part because they went 4-for-16 on third down.

In short, the Broncos faced what may be the worst team in the National Football League (the Indianapolis Colts included) and won because they were simply less awful than their opponent.

Tebow has yet to exhibit the most important determinant in a quarterback's worth: how he passes from the pocket.

I'll say this, he's done more than Orton has this season, but that's not exactly saying much, either.

Tebow fans will point to the fact that he doesn't have enough reps yet. He's young, he just needs time to get adjusted to the league. But at this point he should be able to complete more than 50 percent of his passes against one of the league's worst teams.

The fans in Denver have gotten what they wanted. They have overthrown the organization that is the Denver Broncos and started a revolution with Tebow as the leader.

But how long before they start turning against their leader?

Tebow will be exposed for who he truly is in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions: a quarterback who doesn't have the decision-making or the accuracy to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Sure, Tebow may come into his own later down the line. It's been proven time and time again that this can happen.

However, right now it appears the Broncos were right when they placed Tebow at No. 3 on the depth chart in the preseason.
