WWE Vengeance 2011 Results: CM Punk Will Be Pay-Per-View's Biggest Winner

Tim DanielsOct 23, 2011

Even though five titles will be defended at Vengeance on Sunday night, the event's biggest winner will be CM Punk.

Punk will team with Triple H to take on R-Truth and The Miz in a match that has the potential for greatness if there isn't any interference to ruin it.

It's been nearly four months since Punk's amazing promo on RAW, which sent the social media world into a frenzy. His momentum coming out of that night was unlike the WWE had witnessed in a long time, but it has slowed almost to a halt recently as other storylines have taken front and center.

That will all change as the buildup to Survivor Series begins in earnest tonight.

The "Voice of the Voiceless" has proven his motto “Greatest in the World” to be pretty accurate. His in-ring work is fantastic and, perhaps more importantly to the company, he's selling merchandise at a rapid rate and has become a major draw at live events.

People show up hoping Punk will do something epic with one of his “pipe bombs”—and when a character has that kind of pull, you can't keep him down for long.

After losing at Hell in the Cell due to extraordinary circumstances, there's a strong chance he'll get another opportunity at the WWE Championship at Survivor Series. Alberto Del Rio continues to prove he doesn't belong as the WWE's No. 1 guy right now.

Having Del Rio's title run coincide with WWE's trip to Mexico made a lot of sense, but even the crowds there didn't give him a major reaction. In many cases, Ricardo Rodriguez gets more heat than Del Rio, which isn't acceptable for a top-tier heel champion.

And while Punk has done a nice job of keeping himself relevant during a transition period of his push, he needs to hold a title soon before the storyline runs out of steam.

As much as I like The Rock, the concern is that his return will overshadow Punk at the least opportune time. However, it could actually work to Punk's advantage.

The ratings usually see a spike when the People's Champ makes an appearance, which will allow Punk to get back on track in front of a big audience.

Many members of the WWE Universe have been disappointed with CM Punk's direction as of late because they expect groundbreaking material every night. Vince McMahon and Co. understood that wasn't possible, so they allowed him to cool off a bit before finishing the push.

It was a smart move in the big picture. Things will start moving in the right direction at Vengeance—so don't lose faith in Punk just yet.
