LAS VEGAS — The Yankees are prepared to top the Braves’ reported $60 million four-year offer to star free-agent pitcher A.J. Burnett, according to people familiar with their thinking.

While the Yankees had been reluctant to give Burnett the full-fledged five-year deal he seeks,. they seem likely to offer a four-year deal for about $64 million. Burnett is being pursued by the Jays, Orioles and Nationals as well.

"

With the Yankees not even thinking about five years, a four-year deal doesn’t sound that bad.

Ok, let’s get something straight here. We know he is injury prone. You're going to have to get over that, though. Injuries can happen to anyone.

Look at Posada this year. He was never on the DL until this past season.

For all we know, Sabathia could get injured and his season could end just like that. You don’t need to have past injuries to land on the DL.

We need pitching, and Burnett is one of the top players on the market. Whether you like him or not, the Yankees should definitely try to get him. Especially since the team is unsure they can get CC.

You can’t predict what will happen down the road. Burnett has pitched great when healthy, and he might surprise you.
