Brian Cashman: “We’re on His List”

Kevin RozellDec 8, 2008

(Zell's Pinstripe Blog)

CC has already stated that he wants to be a Dodger, but that doesn’t mean anything is going to happen. Colletti has said that landing Sabathia was a “possibility,” but as of now nothing is going on.

After stating that he would want to be a Dodger...He met with the Yankees again. I hope CC follows the money, because I don’t see anyone else going higher. If he leaves $40 million on the table...I think he’s nuts. Haha

LoHud Yankees Blog: Brian Cashman: “We’re on his list”

"

Brian Cashman just said he met again today with CC Sabathia. “We’re on his list,” Cashman said.

UPDATE, 7:02 PM:Joe Girardi said he felt good about the meeting. Sabathia asked questions about the lifestyle in New York for his wife and kids, schools, etc. Cashman said he felt Sabathia was a genuine person and that his interest in the Yankees is legit.

Cashman said there is no deadline in terms if Sabathia. But he is continuing to talk with other pitchers. ...There has been no offer to Mark Teixeira, Cashman said.

More to come including some audio. I have to get to another meeting.

—————————————

this is what happened at today’s meeting:

The Yankees met with free-agent left-hander CC Sabathia for the second time in two days on Monday. Only Sabathia, his agents and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman attended the second meeting.

Does Sabathia want to play in New York?

“That’s a question for him,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “I think we’re on the list of teams that he’s interested in. It’s as simple as that.”

Cashman said the meetings were “productive” for Sabathia, “important for him to put himself in position to make the best decision for himself and his family. It speeds up the process for him to make an informed decision.”

Sabathia also was expected to meet with the Red Sox and Brewers either on Monday or later during the winter meetings.

The Yankees continue to maintain contact with other free-agent pitchers, Cashman said, and they also are looking for a utility infielder who would can back up at second base, shortstop and third, enabling Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez to occasionally take a day off or serve as a designated hitter.

Free agent Nick Punto is among the players they are considering.

Goya Foods will match all donations of food products pound-for-pound, with at least 20,000 pounds of Goya products.
