Sam Bradford Injury: Star QB's Absence Guarantees a Cowboys Rout of Rams

Mike ChiariOct 22, 2011

After suffering a high ankle sprain against the Green Bay Packers last week, the status of St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford was uncertain against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. With Bradford now officially out, however, the Rams don't stand a chance.

The situation was already dire heading into the weekend for St. Louis with a record of 0-5, but at least they would have had a fighting chance with Bradford under center. In his absence, the Rams will have to turn to little-used backup A.J. Feeley.

Feeley has starting experience with the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins, but there is reason why he is nothing more than a veteran backup at this point. That reason, of course, is that he simply isn't a very good quarterback.

The Rams acquired Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Lloyd from the Denver Broncos ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, but it is unlikely that he will make much of a difference on Sunday without Bradford throwing him the ball.

With Feeley starting the Cowboys defense will be able to focus on stopping Steven Jackson and the running game. The Rams are a passing team at heart with Josh McDaniels as the offensive coordinator, but the offense will almost have to be adjusted this weekend.

Seeing as St. Louis' defense has been generally awful this season, it is hard to imagine the Cowboys not at least eclipsing 30 points in this game. Quarterback Tony Romo should be able to have a field day against the Rams as they will likely have a tough time covering the likes of Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten.

After losing to the New England Patriots in the final seconds last week and blowing a huge lead against the Detroit Lions in their previous game, the Cowboys will certainly be desperate to score a win over a team they should definitely beat.

Dallas has had trouble holding on to leads as well, so they will probably put as many points on the board as possible. For the Rams to stay in the game, they will have to engage in a shootout, but I don't think that is a possibility without Bradford.

The season began with a lot of hope and promise for the Rams, but with Bradford on the shelf, I don't think they have any chance to beat the Cowboys on Sunday. A loss would give them a record of 0-6, and it would end their playoff hopes for all intents and purposes.
