2012 NFL Mock Draft: Superstars Who Are Free-Falling Down Draft Boards

Kyle VassaloOct 22, 2011

There are Top-10 superstar prospects who are in the process of lighting their draft stock on fire. Before the season began, it seemed as though these prospects were locks to be drafted in the top half of the first round. When it's all said and done, they'll be lucky to be drafted in the first round at all.

Here are a few top-notch prospects who are free-falling down draft boards, along with their potential landing places.

Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona State

Highest Potential Landing Place: No. 12 Philadelphia Eagles.

Vontaze Burfict has regressed. It's clear he's trying to shake off the character concerns, but it's taken away from his play, and he is still collecting personal fouls like stamps.

Burfict has the tools to be an elite middle linebacker at the next level, but there are teams who are going to take him off their board. The Eagles are the perfect landing place for him, as he fills a glaring need and would have Andy Reid to help keep his play between the whistles.

Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

Highest Potential Landing Place: No. 11 Cleveland Browns.

Alshon Jeffery hasn't broken the 100-yard mark all season long.

He has five touchdowns on the year; but every week, Michael Floyd is looking more and more like he's going to surpass Jeffery in the draft.

Jeffery is a monster target, but is he the next Larry Fitzgerald? His lack of production is alarming, and teams are going to want to know why he's not taking over games as he should be.

Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

Highest Potential Pick: No. 24, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dre Kirkpatrick is a terrific in-your-face sort of corner. He doesn't let receivers get a free release and takes on ball carriers head-on. With so many corners better than him in coverage, though, Kirkpatrick is getting caught up in the wash.

We saw Prince Amukamara plummet in the draft, and there wasn't nearly the competition at the position. Plenty of teams need a corner, but there are also plenty to choose from. Kirkpatrick was originally the most highly-touted corner in the nation, but things aren't so clear anymore.

Here is a full 2012 first-round mock draft, with draft order projected by Wes O'Donnell.
