WWE Vengeance 2011: Last Man Standing Match Perfect Showcase for Alberto Del Rio

To say that Alberto Del Rio's two WWE title reigns have been disappointing would be an understatement. He has been an afterthought on television for the last two weeks, and no one has bought into him as champion as a result. But he will have the perfect match against the perfect opponent at Vengeance to turn those misfortunes around. 

When it was announced on Raw that Del Rio would challenge John Cena in a Last Man Standing match, my feelings were mixed. 

Del Rio has never pinned Cena in a championship match, so giving him a clean pinfall victory would do wonders for his credibility and elevate his fading star in the eyes of the audience. 

However, the idea that WWE would allow Cena to be pinned clean heading into Survivor Series and his tag-team match with The Rock is too far-fetched. So, by making this a Last Man Standing match, at least we know that Del Rio is assured of winning. 

On top of that, this will be a great way for WWE to showcase him as a dastardly heel. These types of matches work well when building up a heel, because they are designed to bring out the most vile and despicable traits they have. 

Part of the problem with Del Rio as champion is that he is not an evil person on television. He gets booed by the audience because he is supposed to get booed, but he has really done nothing to warrant being disliked. 

In this match, against the biggest star in WWE, all that will change. Del Rio has to throw every evil trick in the book at Cena in order to win this match. He has to bring in tables, ladders, chairs, sledgehammers—anything and everything he can find to put Cena down. 

There is no reason to give Cena the title because of what he has lined up heading into November with The Rock, so why wouldn't WWE build up Del Rio?

Of all the matches that WWE could have picked to get Del Rio over as a top heel and someone the fans need to take seriously, a Last Man Standing is the best of the bunch.
