WWE Vengeance 2011: Why Air Boom Is a Lock to Retain Against Ziggler and Swagger

Mike ChiariOct 20, 2011

While it isn't much, the WWE tag team division has seen some improvement over the past couple months with teams like Air Boom, Awesome Truth, and Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. With that said, there still isn't a dominant team that can take the division by storm.

Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne have been adequate Tag Team Champions to this point, as the fans can get behind their great energy and high-flying movesets. However, they aren't the team that is going to single handedly save tag team wrestling in the WWE.

Air Boom will defend the tag titles at Vengeance on Sunday against the team of Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. Ziggler and Swagger are both excellent in-ring competitors and have some charisma, although they haven't been allowed to showcase it much.

As a fan of both Ziggler and Swagger I would like to see them beat Air Boom on Sunday, but I don't envision such a scenario happening. For one, I think that Vengeance will be heel heavy in terms of the match winners.

I think Alberto Del Rio, Mark Henry and Beth Phoenix will all defend their titles, and I also have a strong feeling that Awesome Truth and Cody Rhodes will be victorious as well. With all of those heels winning I find it unlikely that Ziggler and Swagger would win.

Also, it seems as though the creative team is trying to start a feud between Ziggler and Mason Ryan for whatever reason. That feud probably wouldn't be able to develop if Ziggler and Swagger were to win the Tag Team Championships.

Should Kingston and Bourne lose their titles, then they might spend some time trying to get them back, but after that there wouldn't be much left for them to do. There aren't any other teams to feud with, so they would go back to being singles competitors in all likelihood.

The best part of Air Boom is that it took two talented, albeit flawed wrestlers who were spinning their wheels as singles competitors and combined them into a tag team that people can actually care about.

While I personally find Kingston and Bourne to be a bit boring as individuals, it's tough to deny that they are the closest thing to a true tag team the WWE has outside of the Usos. Because of that I think that the WWE should and will keep the belts on them until they can develop another team or two.

Air Boom may not be much, but if the tag division is ever going to be revitalized, then the Tag Team Championships can't be given to two guys who are more adept as singles wrestlers like Ziggler and Swagger.
