MLB World Series 2011: Rangers Will Take Momentum Home for Game 3

Michael DixonOct 20, 2011

The World Series is underway. There really is something fun about a sport that decides its championship with a series, rather than one game.

Momentum changes so much within one game and certainly one series. When Game 2 is over, the momentum of the series will belong to Texas, as Colby Lewis will beat Jaime Garcia, giving Texas a golden opportunity to win their franchise's first World Series.

With the exception of Chris Carpenter, the Cardinals pitching is just not there. The Rangers pitched relatively well in last year's World Series, but just couldn't out-pitch the Giants.

With the exception of Carpenter, nobody on the Cardinals' staff is pitching anywhere near as well as the Giants' pitchers were last postseason.

What that means is that we're more likely to see a higher scoring series. It's not that St. Louis is unequipped for that, but I don't like how they stack up to the Rangers.

Obviously, anything can happen in baseball. It's probably the most difficult of all sports to predict on a game to game basis, which means that it's extremely challenging to predict a series.

I certainly get that argument and the Cardinals have had no problem shocking anyone in the last few months.

So, the Cardinals winning four games before the Rangers wouldn't shock me, but I don't see it happening.

As a matter of fact, I really like Lewis to beat Garcia tonight, which would give them momentum as they head back to Texas.

The fact of the matter is that St. Louis' pitchers—other than Chris Carpenter—haven't proved that they can make it deep into a game.

While it's true that the same can be said about Texas, the Rangers have a much better and more consistent bullpen than what the Cardinals have had.

In Game 2, the lack of pitching depth that the Cardinals have will show. With it, the momentum of the series will shift to the Rangers.
