Week 7 Fantasy Football Rankings: 5 Players to Sell High Right Now

Gary DavenportOct 19, 2011

Every year in fantasy football some players come out of the gates scoring like gangbusters. While some of these players continue their torrid pace, some see their fantasy production tail off, and others drop off a cliff entirely.

The key with these latter types of players is to trade them while their value is at the apex and deal them to fill needs or upgrade at other positions before their value begins to decrease.

With that in mind, here are five players you may want to consider shopping in your fantasy football league. Their fantasy futures may not be as rosy as their recent past, and sometimes it's best to get while the getting's good.

1. Tim Tebow, QB (Denver Broncos)

1 of 5

It's not often a player can reach "sell high" status before starting a single game for his team this season.

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow will do so for the first time in 2011 Sunday when the Broncos face the Miami Dolphins.

However, for every rule there is an exception, and in this case it's Tebow, who has a band of supporters so fervent they sometimes border on fanatical.

Tebow has shown the ability to be a productive fantasy asset in the past, but if you're skeptical that he can live up to all the hype, you can likely find a believer fairly easily and get top-10 QB fantasy trade value from a guy you probably pulled off the waiver wire and who has hardly played this year.

2. Fred Jackson, RB (Buffalo Bills)

2 of 5

Fifth-year running back Fred Jackson has been the top dog at his position in fantasy football through the first six weeks, gaining nearly 900 total yards and scoring half a dozen touchdowns for the surprising 4-2 Buffalo Bills.

However, these numbers far outpace anything Jackson's done to this point in his career, raising questions as to whether or not his production is sustainable. While it may be hard to consider parting with him if you have a need at another position, demand will likely never be higher for Jackson's services. Now may be the time to strike.

3. Michael Turner, RB (Atlanta Falcons)

3 of 5

After an up-and-down start to the 2011 season, Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner has somewhat turned it on as of late, rushing for 265 yards and five touchdowns over the past three games—vaulting himself into the top 10 among fantasy ball-carriers.

Turner's inconsistency, age and career workload are all valid concerns, as is his sub-four yards a carry average in three of six games so far this season. If you can get top-10 fantasy RB trade value for the eighth-year veteran right now, it would be advisable to pull the trigger.

4. Steve Smith, WR (Carolina Panthers)

4 of 5

The biggest beneficiary of rookie quarterback Cam Newton's offensive explosion with the Carolina Panthers has been 11th-year wide receiver Steve Smith.

Smith has exploded back into fantasy prominence on the heels of 32 receptions for 675 yards, three touchdowns and a fourth-place ranking among fantasy wideouts.

Whether or not Newton can keep up his frenetic offensive pace is debatable, and should Newton's fantasy production start to lag so will Smith's. It may be a good time to at least entertain the notion of trading Smith while his value is at its zenith.

5. Wes Welker, WR (New England Patriots)

5 of 5

No wide receiver in fantasy football has been more productive to this point in the season than eighth-year pro Wes Welker of the New England Patriots. He's racked up a ridiculous 51 receptions for 765 yards and six scores so far this year.

Welker has cooled a bit the past two games, but his record-shattering, video game-like pace simply wasn't something that was going to continue.

I'm a huge fan of Welker's and would have an awfully hard time unloading him, but if you want to maximize the bang for your buck before his stat lines start looking more like the NFL and less like Madden 12, then the time to Sell-ker may be now.
