World Series 2011: Rangers' Power and Cardinals' Mystique Lead True Classic

Gabe ZaldivarOct 19, 2011

The World Series is set for Wednesday evening. Much of the country will receive the series with a nonchalant attitude, which is a shame because there is so much to like about this matchup.

The Texas Rangers clash with the St. Louis Cardinals, a team that has no business being at the Fall Classic. At least, that was the sentiment a couple weeks ago, when the Cardinals stole their way into the postseason.

You can never count the Cards out. The team that lost one of their best pitchers at the beginning of the season in Adam Wainwright was given little chance to compete.

The rest of the season was given over to discussion on the Phillies and Brewers. One was sure to make a dent in the postseason, the other would be a fun story if they did. Neither are here.

The Cardinals are the storied engine that still does. And they will meet up with their toughest challenge to date. The rotation and bullpen that has held their own will be tested by the Yankees without pinstripes.

The Bronx Bombers of the West are the Texas Rangers, a team that has rumors floating around it about potential free-agent pick-offs this offseason, just like the usual suspects we see every fall.

Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre and Nelson Cruz are the Murderer's Row that will step in the box and demand the Cardinals earn this title.

This is a series that demand the entirety of games. I have the Rangers taking the series in seven games, but the margin is razor thin.

We hum and haw about how there is never anything good on TV. Well, this is your chance to watch history being made in dramatic fashion.

The Cardinals are the never-say-die team that we love to root for. The Rangers offer the sheer brawn and power that excites even the most borderline fan.

The World Series is Wednesday, and it is sure to be a Fall Classic.
