Ronnie Brown to Lions Trade: Is This Final Nail in Andy Reid's Coffin?

John RozumOct 18, 2011

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Detroit Lions now have RB Ronnie Brown:

Before we get to the Andy Reid situation, did the Eagles really need Ronnie Brown to begin with?

He carried the ball only 13 times for 38 yards, fumbled once, and had no TDs. Brown also didn't have any part of their receiving game, which was one area where he could have definitely contributed.

Nonetheless, Brown is now with the Lions and the Eagles get to rely solely on RB LeSean McCoy.

So, now let's get to coach Reid.

Is this the final nail in the coffin for axing him as the Eagles' head coach?

Needless to say, it wouldn't be surprising because despite getting an imperative road win in Washington, it still wasn't all that impressive.

For one, Philly forced four turnovers on Washington QB Rex Grossman, however, the Eagles' offense was only able to muster up 20 points.

And, both Vick and Vince Young each threw an interception that kept the Redskins in the game.

Now, Washington does have a very solid defense, and allowing 20 points to Philly was the most they've given up all year.

But when your defense gets you four turnovers in one game, and Philadelphia has the talent that's on their offense, only scoring 20 points in ludicrous.

For all the hype this offense was getting, and for as amazing as they were supposed to be, the Eagles should have scored over 40 when getting four additional possessions.

However, not only did they turn it over twice, but the overall 60 minute performance was not indicative of even a "paper champion" team.

All this being said, don't expect the Eagles to all of sudden turn everything around because they beat a vulnerable and overrated Redskins team.

This remaining schedule isn't just a cake-walk and if the Eagles continue to struggle, which they very well might, it would not be surprising to see Reid gone before the season's over.

And even if Philly does make a run at the postseason toward the end, and either lose in the wild-card or fail to get in, that may also cause Reid to be without a job this offseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles have an insane amount of talent and potential on their team, but you wouldn't know it by how they've played the first six games, even when they won.

So, is this trade the final nail in the coffin for Reid coaching in Philadelphia?

No, but he's on extremely thin ice.
