NFL Trade Rumors: Chicago Bears Must Trade Matt Forte

Donald WoodOct 18, 2011

The Chicago Bears need to trade Matt Forte at the deadline or watch him walk out of the building with no compensation come free agency time.

Matt Forte has become one of the top running backs in the league, and his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and run between the tackles makes him a valuable asset on the trade market.

There looks to be no plans in the works for the Bears to re-sign the running back to a long-term deal, and Forte has no problem walking out the door when the season is over.

Forte told the Chicago Tribune about his future with the Bears:

"

I'm glad teams are interested. For me to be out here working as hard as I do and not have a contract extension, you kind of get that feeling of being unappreciated. I just hope that when this year is over and I play as well as I've been playing, that if the Bears don't reward me with a contract, another team will.

"

If the Bears don’t try to trade the running back, they better get serious about signing the back to an extension that stops the talk of free agency. Forte is the future of the Chicago backfield, and if the Bears don’t see that then they don’t deserve to have the back anyway.

There is an opportunity for the people in charge of the Bears organization to better themselves if they don’t have Forte in their long-term plans, so if they don’t pull the trigger on a trade, they will be doing the club a disservice.

While the Bears have been known for plenty of boneheaded moves, I think they have the brains to sign the back to a heavy extension, and this is all part of the master plan for Chicago.
