NFL Trade News: Oakland Raiders Reportedly Trade for Quarterback Carson Palmer
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports is reporting on Twitter that the Oakland Raiders are close to acquiring Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer for a first-round pick and an additional conditional pick. If true, the Raiders' desperation cost them big time.
The loss of quarterback Jason Campbell to a collarbone injury sent Oakland into a tizzy, searching far and wide to find a replacement so that they won't have to stick with current backup Kyle Boller. Palmer is a solid option, but trading away the team's only remaining pick in the first four rounds is ludicrous.
Nobody knows what to expect from Palmer, as he has sat on the sidelines all season because Bengals owner Mike Brown had previously refused to trade the disgruntled QB. If a deal is consummated, it will prove Brown wised up before it was too late.

And that's great news for Cincinnati, which is a team on the rise and already have what they hope to be a franchise signal caller in Andy Dalton. Another first-round pick will help them bolster his supporting cast.
As for Oakland, it's a risky move but one they felt was necessary. The Raiders obviously believe they are playoff contenders and didn't have any faith in Boller holding down the fort.
It will take Palmer some time to get back up to game speed and learn at least a portion of the playbook, but he did throw 26 touchdown passes last season. If the move ends up pushing the Raiders into the playoffs, nobody will be able to fault the organization.
However, if the experiment fails, expect to see a lot of heat on Oakland's front office, which is now lacking picks to improve next season's squad.
