Winter Classic Uniforms: Rumors Promise Rangers and Flyers Going Classic

As the weather turns far more cold and wet, the Winter Classic looms around the corner, and it is promising to be a classic in more ways than one. 

The games and matches of today is what brings us to the stadiums, but the memories are what keep us as fans. I can't get enough of the sporting past. The look, feel and sounds are too much to resist sometimes. 

The Winter Classic hardly needs another item to spruce it up even more, but that seems to be the case in recent rumors and rumblings. 

Yahoo Sports has a rundown on some jersey rumors that have the New York Rangers wearing some off-white throwbacks and the Philadelphia Flyers going old school as well. 

The report cites that Philadelphia Sports Daily first ran the scoop. Its report states the initial mock ups came from a message board, which raises the biggest red flag of them all. 

There are no dates issued as to when we will know for certain if these are the actual jerseys for the Winter Classic or when they will be made available. The report states that initial sources couldn't guarantee that these are the actual jerseys.

The image first appeared on message boards at the end of September, before Chris Pronger was announced as the team’s captain and Kimmo Timonen and Danny Briere were announced as the assistants...Because it had been so long since they saw it, the sources were not able to 100-percent confirm that this is the actual design, but they indicated that these threads are likely to be what will be announced as the official jerseys.

Apparently, there has been a delay at Reebok, pushing back the unveiling of the actual jerseys. However, sources are confident that the actual ones will be very close to these photos. 

I for one like the look of both jerseys and welcome a classic look for what will be a memorable clash of storied hockey clubs. 

A contest we wait months for gets an added level of intrigue, and I am nothing short of excited for it.
